We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylour Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylour, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I’m in the beauty industry, one thing I would say outsiders wouldn’t understand is that it’s a science. Being a cosmetologist requires knowing and understanding the color wheel, anatomy, chemistry, electricity, hair and scalp health, etc. A lot goes into the title of being a Licensed Cosmetologist.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a cosmetologist and im starting to get into content creating. I believe what sets me apart from others is I have an interesting story. I am a black Muslim hairstylist who covers her hair. I also create fashion and beauty content. I try to mix all of these things together to truly brand myself and most important put myself out there. The challenges I would say I face is finding that balance. It can be hard to balance work and life. When you’re a business owner, you’re always on the go which can get hard at times. It’s very important to REST!
I would want the world to know that I am very educated when it comes to beauty and healthy hair and skin. I have a lot of offer in the hair world. My main goal is to teach proper hair care. Another goal is mine is to encourage people to find their style and rock it. I want to let people know that there’s room for everyone to be great. No matter what field you’re in. Don’t give up on your dreams, and remain true to you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take my friend to every beach in the city, take them downtown for some good brunch spots such as Cafe 222. I also love shopping so I would want my friend to check out some beautiful malls such as, Fashion Valley, Las Americas outlet, and UTC mall. I’d have to take a drive up to Oceanside to Felix’s BBQ and soul. That food is so worth the drive. Lastly, since we are so close to the border, I’d have to take my friend to Tacos El Gordo, Humbertos, and TJ Oyster Bar.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom. Since I’ve decided I wanted to be a cosmetologist she’s supported me the whole way. She’s helped me gain clients, listened to me vent and cry. Gave me tough advice when needed. Helped me with designing a lot of things that went into my business. She’s really amazing. I wouldn’t be this far without my mom.
