Meet Taylor Conrad | Herbalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Conrad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Taking care of our mental and physical health! Somedays when you are exhausted sleep is the best medicine. When we walk our dog we have ‘business meetings’ together. We talk about upcoming plans and ideas while getting some vitamin D and taking care of our dog. Staying consistant with our business is crutial, even if we work on something for just 30minutes on the business to keep the flow going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My husband Adam always pushes me to do better and keeps me positive! I’ve always made stuff growing up from candles, arts and crafts, pottery, etc. When I first met Adam I made him a candle for him and his family, he said it was the best candle he’s ever seen haha

Once I got let go from my job we went full force on the business. I’m extremely passionate about helping people and always curious about the ingredients in products. All of our products are made with no toxins or chemicals, and should actually make you feel good! We don’t use any plastic, everything is sustainable, healthy, and has the highest quality of ingredients.

We use a proprietary blend of beeswax, coconut wax, and essential oils for our candles because it burns twice as long as soy or paraffin. It acts as a natural air purifier like having a salt lamp in your home, As beeswax candles burn they pull toxins as they ionize the air. Negative ions bind with toxins which helps remove them from the air providing a cleaner environment for you and your family.

Beeswax candles burn cleanly and have no added fragrances or colorings. It’s also Soot free, which is that black smoke you would see when you blow a candle out. We only use pure beeswax for our candles. This ensures you’re not breathing in any chemicals or additives.

Adam grew up in Massachusetts and he has a friend from high school that owns an apiary. He sells us his beeswax, so we know it’s coming from a trustworthy source. An apiary is a location where beehives of honey bees are kept.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A secret gem of San Diego would be Solana Beach. Where we currently live! Not many people know about it when they visit here. It’s a small beach vibe that’s clean and friendly. You can always find parking here! Cedros ave is a small shopping street that is fantastic. We love Thai food and there s a restauraunt called Bangkok that is fantastic.

Fletchers Cove is a great place to visit the beach. Down the road is Del Mar dog beach where you can bring your dog and walk the beach! We love that. There’s also Annies Canyon which is a small hiking spot that is easy and has great views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out my Mom, ( Colleen Carter) who passed away from breast cancer in 2016. She was the hardest working woman I knew! Colleen was a fighter, lover, extremely smart, and creative. She’s my hero. This company wouldn’t be possible without her. It’s dedicated to her. Our middle name is Rose, so we named the company Kalén & Rose. Which is pronounced like Colleen. Our logo is a hummingbird and a rose. The hummingbird signifies her watching over us.

After she was diagnosed with breast cancer, we slowly started unraveling all of the toxic ingredients that were in all of the familiar products that she grew up on. From my own extreme food sensitivities, it became my mission to find natural methods to heal her body.
