Meet Tanya Baron | Owner – Sorella Spices

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Baron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Sorella Spices really started as a personal project—something I was doing in my own kitchen out of love and necessity. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, but like many moms, I spent years trying to juggle family meals with a million other responsibilities. When my kids went off to college, I suddenly found myself with the space to think about what was next—and I kept coming back to the joy I found in creating meals, especially when I could make them easier and more flavorful.
I started blending spices to simplify dinner in our house. No fillers, no preservatives—just good ingredients in combinations that worked. As I began sharing jars with my kids and friends, I noticed something that stuck with me: these blends were genuinely making cooking easier for people. Meals came together faster, decisions were simpler, and people felt more confident trying new things in the kitchen.
That’s when the idea for Sorella Spices truly came to life. I thought: if these blends can make cooking easier and more enjoyable for us, why not share them? Because good food doesn’t need to be complicated. With a few high-quality ingredients and the right flavor foundation, anyone can feel confident in the kitchen.
What started as a personal passion has turned into a way to support other busy households and new cooks. I didn’t build this brand overnight, but with every jar, I’m reminded why I started—to make delicious home-cooked meals a little simpler, and a lot more joyful.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sorella Spices is still very much in its early chapters—and it’s a business I’m building entirely on my own, one step at a time. I’m wearing all the hats: product development, branding, fulfillment, social media, sales—you name it. It hasn’t been easy, and I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, but each one has been a lesson that’s helped me grow as both a founder and a person.
What sets Sorella Spices apart is our commitment to quality and simplicity. Our blends are made with clean, thoughtfully sourced ingredients—no anti-caking agents, no fillers, no added sugar, and low sodium. Just real flavor, made to support real people in their kitchens. I created these blends for busy households like mine, where people want to cook at home but don’t want to compromise on taste or nutrition.
What I’m most proud of is how people respond when they use the blends for the first time. They tell me how much easier cooking feels, how much more confident they are in the kitchen, and how they’re actually excited to try new things. That means everything to me, because that’s exactly why I started this.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that progress matters more than perfection. It’s easy to get caught up in trying to do everything “right,” but I’ve learned to trust my instincts, stay grounded in my values, and keep moving forward—even when things feel messy or uncertain.
What I want the world to know is that Sorella Spices is more than a product—it’s a reflection of real life. It’s about finding joy in the everyday moments, embracing shortcuts that don’t sacrifice quality, and supporting each other in the kitchen and beyond. I may still be building, but this brand comes from a place of love, intention, and a deep belief that good food doesn’t need to be complicated.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, we’d definitely spend a lot of time near the beach—that’s always been my happy place. We’d start in Malibu with lunch at The Mutt or John’s Garden—both are local favorites, but The Mutt’s falafel is a must. It’s been a favorite since I was a kid, and it still tastes exactly the same. If you haven’t had it, you’re seriously missing out.
With so many amazing hikes in and around LA, we’d definitely tackle one while they’re here. One day would be a little day trip to Carpinteria. It’s the kind of beach town that still feels relaxed and low-key, perfect for wandering, grabbing a bite, and slowing down.
Back in LA, we’d walk the harbor in Marina del Rey and grab dinner at Chez Jay. It’s one of those places that hasn’t changed much over the years—in the best way.
The rest of the week would be a mix of farmers markets, rooftop drinks, vintage shopping, and catching sunsets whenever we can. For me, it’s all about sharing the easygoing side of LA—the places with character, history, and a sense of comfort.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s no way I could tell the story of Sorella Spices without honoring the people who helped shape it. I grew up cooking alongside the women in my family. The kitchen was where we gathered, told stories, and showed our love through food. Those early memories instilled in me a deep appreciation for the power of a home-cooked meal and laid the foundation for everything Sorella Spices would one day become.
I’m also deeply grateful for the support of my husband and kids. They were always willing to try something new, offer feedback, and encourage me as I turned this idea into a business. Their belief in me—sometimes even before I fully believed in myself—meant everything.
And I have to shout out the incredible women-owned businesses that helped bring Sorella Spices to life. From design and branding to packaging and logistics, I’ve had the privilege of working with some truly talented women who brought their creativity, expertise, and heart to this journey. That sense of community and collaboration has been one of the most unexpected and rewarding parts of building this brand.
Sorella means “sister,” and this entire journey has been a reflection of that spirit—family, friendship, and women supporting one another to do something meaningful.
