Meet Tamara Barajas | Esthetician & Business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Barajas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking a risk gave me my career, If it wasn’t for the risk I took, I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today. I opened my business with zero clients, and freshly out of esthetician school. I didn’t allow my fears of being unsuccessful get in the way of my dream.
Risk taking opened a million doors for me, gave me a loving community, and meaningful friendships. I believe those who are willing to take risk show the biggest form of self-love, confidence, and open mindedness.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bonita’s Skin Boutique is a skincare sanctuary. As a passionate Esthetician, my objective is to pander to your skin needs, while maintaining the focus on your relaxation. I believe what sets us apart from our competitors is our affordability. As someone who grew up in a low income household understanding a luxury such as a facial isn’t always available. Our goal at Bonita’s Skin Boutique is to give everyone the opportunity to learn, love and heal their skin.
I’m most proud of being a Latina owned business. Showing my community anything is possible is very important to me. I’m a first generation entrepreneur, and I couldn’t be prouder. Though the journey was hard it taught me valuable lesson. That being patience is key! Starting with zero clients was not easy, there was times where I doubted myself but overcoming those struggles meant I had to step out of my comfort zone. Promoting my business by going out of my way to communicate with strangers, post on social media, and hand-out flyers. Those moments where failure felt near, taught me that patience to succeed is so important.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m huge on coffee so we would definitely take a drive to San Diego to explore the city views and of course make a stop at “The coffee bean & tea leaf”! For brunch we would have to stop at “ Cocina De Barrio” for yummy food! One of my favorite activities to do in San Diego is visit the “Coin-Op game room”! A day of festivities starts in San Diego!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Firstly, I want to thank the amazing community that stands behind me. From friends to strangers, all of you helped me every step of the way.
Without being said my biggest shoutout goes to my family. Growing up I saw how hardworking, and devoted my parents were to give my siblings and I a better life. Sacrificing everything to give us the opportunity of a lifetime. They gave me the strength, courage, and unconditional support to follow my dreams. The role models in my life taught me to be resilient, brave, kind and generous. A mis padres, gracias por todo lo que son.
I would also love to thank the Rosa family as well, a sweet and amazing family who helped Bonita’s skin boutique come to life. The Rosa family gave me the resources to open my small business and allow my creativity to run wild.
The last of my shoutout goes to the friendships I’ve created along the way, thank you all for loving Bonita’s skin boutique!
