Meet Susan Osborn

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Susan Osborn again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Susan, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Hello!
I am a local artist working in the South Bay area of San Diego. I work in many mediums including painting with fabric, collage and acrylic. I am also known for my oil pastel work and also assemblage of found objects. I guess you can say I am multi tasked in my art practice.
Much of this came about from my past experiences of teaching eleven art subjects in a private high school. I was called to teach ceramics as well as photography along with drawing and painting to all levels.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Since COVID I have worked in a new series using the patterns of fabric on canvas in my paintings. The themes are usually landscape based but in the last few months I am including architecture because I feel I must show how man has influenced nature. How does our built environment enhance or impair nature?
I was thrilled to have a solo exhibit last year with over thirty artworks.
2025 is starting out with a “bang!” because I am honored to be included in four exhibits so far.
There are challenges ahead as I am asked to respond with my artwork to current issues in our society.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.

What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
I think one of the most important things to know about making art is to be true to yourself. Make the art that has something to say rather than only your skill.
I want people to see that I praise the beauty in life, have wonder about all its textures and colors. I want the viewer of my art to see my world in my eyes and ask questions. I hope to start a dialogue about where I live and the influences on the built environment and nature.
