We had the good fortune of connecting with the Silenus Crew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As everything, it all started as a hobby, experimenting, learning new things, so, it was just adjusting to the demand from our friends who then became costumers. We were taking it one step at a time, not trying to get a hold of the whole market, but little by little instead. So basically, even though we had a vision of what we wanted to do for our brand, we knew it wasn’t gonna happen overnight, . We have had a lot of struggles: production, licenses, permits, trainings, city compliance, etc. and you think its never gonna end, you never gonna have all your paperwork completely in order, so patience played a huge roll in the process, and, well, here we are, doors open, events scheduled week in week out and people coming in, new customers and our regulars.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I think that what has help the Crew is that all of us have our jobs, and this project is our baby, we all take the time to nurture it and make it work. So delegating daily activities to each one of us makes it easier than trying to do everything on a daily basis. My self, I run an insurance branch, the other guy has been working as a freelancer in the medical insdustry and IT in general for quite a while and the third one works in the school district, so that has helped us to have an steady income and be able to handle the few losses we have had, you know, pandemic wise.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough one: – I would start by visiting the omninax theater, then head to the lighthouse in Playas, grab a coffe and take a walk at the pier and contemplate the sunset and take a look of the Coronado bay at Latinamerica’s corner
– Walk around downtown on Revolucion St., and stop for lunch at Caesar’s Restaurant, home of the world famous and original caesar salad, some drinks and walk around at souvenir shops
– Tijuana tacos are very famous, so this is a must: Ahumaderas, Franc, which are amongst the most visited taco shops in the city, also visit Mercado Hidalgo which has a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, crafty souvenirs, etc. You will be trapped in a haze of aromas and colors that you’ve never seen before
– Go for big subway at Sotano Suizo and a pint of their house beer, Bosiger, than hop right in front of it to Bosiger’s tasting room and keep the beer tasting and listen to the good playlist or maybe catch a game, we might catch the brewers in action as well
– Last but not least, head to Silenus Tap Room, catch a show and enjoy the food and beers we offer. Our patio has been a venue that has hosted artist from the Indie Scene, including Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day, Macaulay Culkin’s Pizza Underground as well as bands from overseas like Sunset Rollercoaster from Taiwan and Daikaiju from Alabama, Mdou Moctar from Niger, amongst others

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, mostly the shoutout goes to the public, to the people who have tried our beers and keep looking for us in events, beer fests and mostly in our taproom, also to all the fellow brewers from both sides of the border, deffinitely it has become a huge and solid brotherhood, sharing tips, practices and all, also our Silenus Crew who have endured all the ups and downs throughtout the years, but most of all to the public, our customers
