We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayn Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shayn, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I have a saying, “Do what you do best and hire the rest” its hard to be a master of everything. Focus on your skills and what it is you want to do, what your role is, and master it. For me I struggled when I was selling myself as a one man show. When I started building a team that’s when my business started to build momentum. To this day I am still expanding my team to expand my business. Now I focus on leading, working on my business and not for it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a North County kid, more specifically and Escondido Kid, we would have to hit up Grand Ave, all the restaurants, Plan 9 Alehouse has to be my Favorite. Cruzing Grand, The Tea shop, and the comedy club. There is so much on one street.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Grandfather, although he is not with us anymore he was instrumental in my success, he always had a story that would help me through any obstacle, as if he had already been where I was. He was a humble, caring but stern man. To this day I think about him and hope I am making him proud.
