We had the good fortune of connecting with Shavona Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shavona, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Strangers will make you money! Those long life family members and friends will not be your biggest supporters. People don’t owe you anything so you have to get up, go out and get it yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
By day I am an infant preschool teacher, which is why my hours are limited. Yes I still work a full time job, but praying it’s my last job working for someone else. Steam Sistahs is a BBB accredited business and the only steam spa in San Diego County that holds such accreditation. Hard work and determination is what has led me to do VH1 TV show, several podcast and newspaper interviews.
Entrepreneurship is not for the weak so here is my message that I live by, “Celebrate all wins big or small!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to wine, so we would head to Temecula Wine Country. Enjoy lunch in The Cave at Oak Mountain Winery. Stop by Altisima Winery for a cool glass of Sangria. With so many nice places to wine we would have to stay a few days and try out a few more wineries. Some of my favorite places to wine include: Europa Village, Fazeli, Somerset and Lorimar Winery. Once back in San Diego we would enjoy dinner at Sycuan Bull and Bourbon steakhouse. Afterwords hit up the evening Bingo then check into our room. Next day hit the pool for a day of fun in the sun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Black San Diego Facebook group helped me get my first clients. Referred new clients to me and allowed me to advertise my business throughout their page. I receive most of my new clients by word of mouth and referrals. We love referrals, so big shout out to Black Dan Diego!
