We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaun Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaun, what do you attribute your success to?
The cornerstone of my business’s success is my unwavering commitment to being fully present for my clients. I am dedicated to ensuring that they receive not only what they expect but even more. My natural inclination as a people pleaser drives me to consistently exceed expectations, providing me with a deep sense of fulfillment. With experience photographing over 1,000 weddings, I bring not only photographic expertise but also a comprehensive understanding of the wedding day’s flow. I collaborate closely with my clients to craft a seamless timeline, allowing them to fully enjoy their special day without feeling pressured or stressed. After all, a wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and I am passionate about making it as memorable and stress-free as possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Photography is a true art form. While anyone can take a picture, creating a compelling photograph requires skill and vision. I see myself as an artistic photojournalist and storyteller, always on the lookout for three key elements: good light, strong composition, and the perfect moment. These elements are what set my work apart.

A significant part of my success lies in my ability to anticipate what will happen next, allowing me to position myself to capture the perfect shot. This skill has been honed through years of experience. Early in my career, missing the ideal position for capturing a great moment was a source of frustration, even if the resulting photo was good. I knew it could have been better. Those in creative fields like acting, comedy, or music will understand this relentless pursuit of perfection. It’s not easy, but each experience is a valuable lesson that fosters growth and improvement.

This dedication to excellence and the ability to learn from every experience have been instrumental in my journey as a photographer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in the stunning city of San Diego, California, I am always eager to share its beauty with friends and family. As both a wedding photographer and a stand-up comedian, I love taking them to The Comedy Store in La Jolla to catch one of my performances.

San Diego’s Mexican food is truly exceptional, and one of my go-to spots is The Taco Stand for its consistently delicious offerings. However, having grown up in New York, I have a deep appreciation for Italian cuisine. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a delightful meal with great drinks at a cozy restaurant in Little Italy during the evening.

While many visitors flock to the San Diego Zoo, I highly recommend the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido. It’s an incredible experience to see animals roaming freely in expansive habitats rather than confined spaces.

I also love taking my guests to Sunset Cliffs and La Jolla Cove for breathtaking views. A trip to the premium outlets in Carlsbad is always a hit, especially with the beautiful flower fields nearby. Picking fresh strawberries along the way adds a delightful touch to the adventure. These experiences capture the essence of San Diego and make for unforgettable memories.
