Meet Shannon Clemens

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Clemens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Wildwood Petcare out of a lifelong love for animals and a strong belief that pets deserve the same level of care and respect as any other family member. Over the years, I saw how stressful it can be for pet parents to leave their animals in someones else’s care. I wanted to create a service that eases that worry by offering compassionate, reliable, and personalized care so every pet feels safe and loved, even when their people can’t be there.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Wildwood Petcare, I focus on creating genuine connections with both pets and their families. I take the time to learn each pet’s personality, routines, and needs so that my care feels like a seamless extension of home life. I also value clear communication with daily updates and photos to help pet parents feel connected while they’re away. Reliability, trust, and kindness are the cornerstones of everything I do.
Starting a business from a feeling is hard. I channeled what I wanted to do. I wanted to go back to what makes me happy. Animals have always brought me joy. I was tired of being gone all of the time. I lived an interesting life with an unusual job on mega yachts. I knew that I did not want be a vet tech again, but I knew that I needed to brush up on my vet tech training and animal husbandry skills so that I could stand out in the pet care industry. I volunteered for Dr. Monica Gabourel at Stitch Veterinary Urgent Care and Surgery for nine months. I started offering my pet care services to my neighbors and friends. Introducing myself to veterinary hospitals, dog trainers, and other pet care industry people.
For many years my family and I have hosted Super Bowl Fundraisers in our home for Labrador Rescuers of San Diego. Now that my business has grown, I am able to support Labrador Rescuers of San Diego’s annual Lab Amore Fundraisers as a sponsor. As well as support Point Loma High School’s girls flag football team. It is important to me to support the community that I live and work in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego has so much to offer, and I love sharing my favorite spots. A cruise on San Diego Bay is a great and fun way to see the city. Our San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are world famous. Take a stroll through Balboa Park or a walk along Sunset Cliffs, and catch a sunset at any of our beautiful beaches. For food, I’d recommend Point Loma Seafoods for fresh catches, Elvira in Ocean Beach is the new Italian hot spot however Little Italy is a great community with outstanding restaurants too. You can never go wrong with The Brigantine, The Ketch or Miguel’s Cocina. Old Town San Diego is famous for being the “birth place of California,” its authentic Mexican cuisine, and vibrant, historic atmosphere. When in San Diego you must have tacos!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a great deal of gratitude to my former colleagues and mentors in the veterinary field who encouraged me to take the leap into starting my own business. Their encouragement and belief in my abilities helped me find the confidence to grow Wildwood Petcare. I’m also deeply grateful to my wonderful clients and their pets– their trust, loyalty, and kind words remind every day why I love what I do. Their continued support inspires me to keep growing and giving my very best.
