Meet Seth Brubaker | Actor, Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Seth Brubaker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seth, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Among the maxims on Lord Naoshige’s wall there was this one: ‘‘Matters of great concern should be treated lightly.” Master lttei commented, “Matters of small concern should be treated seriously.””
This to me is everything. Prepare carefully. Be thoughtful and exacting in your approach so that when you have an opportunity to act, it is all at your disposal… No thinking, just do…Flow State.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I identify as an artist…whether it’s cooking, acting, writing, Fatherhood or the pursuit of spirituality and understanding. I endeavor to bring artistry to everything I do. I was trained as an actor and of all the arts I think acting is the most accessible. You can go to a museum, the ballet, the symphony and be moved by art…there are experts that can pontificate ad nauseam about what it is that makes a painting/dance/music so important or good but the frame of reference for watching a story unfold where someone wants something and someone else doesn’t want them to have it play out onstage or screen is basically universal. Acting transports us, lets us live vicariously. Writing is an even more strenuous undertaking as it’s a wide open blank canvas. Inspiration is fleeting and writing takes a lot of discipline…the amazing screenwriter William Goldman once said. “The easiest thing in the world to do is just NOT write.”:) I overcame going profoundly manic twice in my 20’s, the 1st time I ended up in jail and the 2nd time institutionalized. I have learned a great deal about mental health in the time since. Creative endeavors are an integral part of my self-care. I want the world to know that we are ALL on a spectrum, that the only absolutes are in perception. We all have a unique singular identity and what makes you happy is up to you to figure out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OK, I’d make a day out of going to The Getty and The Broad Museums…brilliant for so many different reasons! I’d make sure we walked around Venice Beach and Santa Monica on a sunny day. Magic Castle for a night of shows/dinner. A hike along the cliffs in Palos Verdes, The Griffith Observatory with a trail ride thrown in….Restaurants: Pacific Standard Prime in Redondo Beach, burger at The Roosevelt (25 Degrees) , walk the gardens at The Huntington Library and pick out some fresh seafood at Quality Seafood on The Redondo Beach Pier.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow, definitely my family. First for not giving up on me when I faced mental health challenges then later for giving me an amazing incentive to always strive for what is best.
