We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Silverman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
People die every day from substance abuse, mental health issues, and untreated trauma and I wanted to be able to create a platform that allows people not only to get access to help and support, but have that support on an on-going basis, My own lived experience gave me the opportunity to not only tap into what works, but seek sage wisdom from others I’ve met along the way who have also found success in helping others, opening Confidential Recovery gave me that ability. From there came the Veterans Navigation Center. We have always served veterans and their families and now we are able to welcome in active duty service members and their families, giving them access to treatment, support, and resources in our community..

What should our readers know about your business?
As a social entrepreneur I’ve always believed in a triple bottom line with decades of experience in the for profit world and decades more in the non-profit world I’m able to bring a holistic approach to the business. One, making a profit I’m able to make more and serve more. Two, the social side of my business allows me to keep the people, the human side, of what’s important tethered to the bottom line. Three, putting people first over profit has allowed me to help with funeral avoidance.

Sustainability in business requires experience, skill, some luck, and lots of support. Asking for help is not easy but I learned how early and it has really helped with my EROI – emotional return on investment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places to visit:
– Walk along the coast at La Jolla Cove
– Balboa park
– Padres game
– Ferry to Coronado

While there are amazing restraurants in San Diego, my friends would enjoy the best meal available which would be in my kitchen. I love to cook and BBQ and enjoy feeding my friends and family.

If we were to go out it would likely be for Italian at either Filippi’s in Little Italy or Old Venice or the Venetian in Point Loma,

We would find fellowship in the sober community.

After they have fallen in love with San Diego and decide to move here, I will tell them to call my wife who will sell them their dream home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Michelle not only saved my life forty years ago but supports me each day in every way. As I write this today on Mother’s Day I remember my mom and my dad who were two of my greatest supporters as well. Each day, month, week that passes, my kids show a level of support that is rarely seen in young people today.
