We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott and Lori McGervey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott and Lori, how does your business help the community or world
Plumbing is among one of the most problematic issues home owners and business owners come across. There are three important areas that licensed plumbers must be experts in, gas, potable water and sewage waste water. Not only do we build the systems but we must maintain them in a safe hygienic matter. Gas produces heat, water keeps the environment clean and containing sewage waste prevents disease. In my opinion a lot of times I feel a plumber is a first responder in many situations. Without clean contained water where would we be.?There is so much more to plumbing than people are aware of. Sanitation and disinfection plays a lead role in plumbing services. What happens when a sewer line backs up? Yep the licensed plumber to the rescue cabling or jetting the sewer pipe to push the clog through so raw sewage isn’t pouring out into the streets. Water leaks, everyone hates a high water bill but more importantly conserving water especially in California where this state has been in a drastic drought. Educating my customers giving them preventative maintenance measures to keep their plumbing safe and secure. is one of my favorite ideas to share in my company. Not only does this help the community from floods or water damage it also saves on a homeowners and business owners pocket books. I’d be lying if I said I don’t like making money but at the same time I love seeing a bad plumbing issue turn into a lesson well learned with a positive ending.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have learned that owning your own business comes with many obstacles. From hiring the right team, advertising,/marketing, customer service and being a boss. Having someone in the office taking calls, dealing with customers and keeping the schedule flowing is so important. I could not have a successful business with out my other half Lori. She is the face of my company in more ways than one. She puts her heart into Drain Runner Plumbing which has made my clientele grow.I Sometimes it’s hard to wear many hats as an owner but with Lori helping run the show in my opinion this has helped Drain Runner succeed. Lori and I make a good team in keeping the company successful. Managing people is tough sometimes but I have to say teaching guys a service and career that they can take with them for the rest of their lives is rewarding. I love when I have a team member start as a helper and work their way up to a journey man plumber providing for his family and passing the knowledge on, I know I’ve done my part as an owner,, boss and teacher. I’ve also leaned that plumbing isn’t for everyone but when you get the golden ticket you cherish that employee. Good help is hard to find..
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the beach and that would be my first suggestion. We would get sandwiches at Board and Brew grab a couple of my long boards and take a journey to Oceanside harbor. Spend the day in the sun enjoying the surf and listening to the laughter of others. Grab some fish and chips for dinner watching the boats in the harbor. Ending the day with a bonfire down the way and s’mores. The beach is my sanctuary. A day relaxing in the sun, with friends and family, enjoying what God gave us freely a beautiful ocean and relaxing on my day off.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
