Meet Sarah Garcia | Entrepreneur & Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks can be scary. You just have to do what you have to do until you get things done. Nothing is going to land on my lap because I want it. If I want some thing, I have to work hard for it. My biggest risk was quitting my job with a stable paycheck. I had set a goal to quit my job by the end of 2021. Things started moving faster than expected. I made the decision to quit my job, and although I didn’t have much saved, it felt like it was the risk I had to take and just make it work. There was no other option. I hoped for the best and put in my two weeks notice in May of 2021. On the first day of going full time into my business, my anxiety was through the roof, I signed up for beauty school to be able to provide more. That same day and went 100% all in. It has been the best decision I have ever made to this day. I got the keys to my own beauty studio in Mission Valley the day before I graduated. I opened up EyeMire Esthetics first location in November of 2021. It is crazy think that I took one big risk, and it opened up so many doors for me. I sat down a lot to think of my visions, what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be. Setting timelines and goals helped a lot. It is almost like manifesting everything I envisioned. Risk taking is not easy, but its necessary to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to move and start growing. At the end of the day, I have to remind myself that there is always a solution to situations, we just have to look for them or create them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started EyeMire Lashes back in 2019, selling eyelashes and accessories online.
My business later transitioned into services and became EyeMire Esthetics.
Along the way the more my business grew so did the challenges. Some times I didn’t even know where to start or what questions to ask. I truly care about every client I have, many of them I became close friends with. I like to provide a place where they feel safe enough to be able to decompress. Many of them are students, they work multiple jobs, some are moms or have a heavy load of responsibilities. With that being said, I enjoy being all ears. I love to share and exchange experiences with my clients. I remember working so much, having two to three jobs, and going to school. They have also inspired me to do more and keep going further. We can do it all if we set our minds to it. I’d like to say that not only am I proud of being a young Latina business owner, but also a business owner that is able to provide a safe space for any one that walks through the door. At my studio, I work side by side with two other hard working girls.
Together, we provide lash extensions, waxing, and body treatment services. At EyeMire, not only do I want to be able to provide the best quality service but also provide a creative space to other girls who are working on growing their own business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live in La Mesa, and I love all the coffee shops and restaurants around the area. Farmers Table being one of my favorites. Right by Farmers Table, there is a cute coffee shop called Pink Rose Cafe. Another of my favorite San Diego coffee shops is Coffee Talk. I discovered the downtown location and fell in love with the coffee and lovely staff there. One of my favorite things to do is hike Torrey Pines in La Jolla. The views throughout the hike are beautifully rewarding. To top it all, I would end any good day at Handels Ice Cream in Encinitas with a walk on the nearby beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my family, my partner, and close friends. As they have all played a role and impacted my life in unique ways.
My family as my backbone has been a true blessing. My younger sisters (Miah and Monse) have always been my main motivation. I want to be a role model to them, some one they can look up to. My parents and brother have always been extremely hard working and giving individuals. They have always taught me to work hard. Main priority being respectful to others and most importantly, always remain humble with my feet on the ground. A message my mom gave me and I live by, “they can take every thing away from you, but one thing they cant take from you is your education.” My family has been extremely important to me and have always supported my ideas. I value their thoughts, opinions and words of encouragement.
My partner Ali, has been a huge support. He made it well known that I was not alone in this journey. From starting my next idea, quitting my job, enrolling in school, touring locations, signing leases, he has been by my side through it all. I realized how important it is to have a supportive partner to remind you of the ultimate goal saying the right words at the times I needed it the most. It would’ve been a lot harder to do all of this without a partner like him.
My best friend Eunice of course, who has always encouraged me. She actually was the person who inspire me with her work ethic, and encouraged me in starting a business! It feels just like yesterday, coming over from working late, just brainstorming and playing with words. We came up with EyeMire together.
