We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Jade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara Jade, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Giving up is not an option in my mind. I reframe this question to “Do I stay the course or is it time to grow and adapt?” Adaptability is the key to any successful business, regardless of industry, but the tricky line you walk as an artist is how to grow while staying authentic. As a singer songwriter, I find that the best thing I can do to serve my art and my audience is to capture a song raw and unpolished so that I always have a reference of its roots. That helps me stay true to concept as the song grows and changes in the production process.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am known as the keytar wielding singer songwriter. My sound walks the edge of gritty Americana, and catchy alt-pop; balancing evocative lyrics with an inviting warmth and calculated punch. I am proud to say that my music has earned me a spot in the International Songwriting Competition Semifinals (2021) and a San Diego Music Award nomination (2022). I love playing with my band The Jade Theory throughout town, and I’m excited to feature my band in my debut EP release later this year!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever someone comes to visit my go-to spots are the trails at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve and Sunset Cliffs. I feel that there is no better way to experience the coast than to immerse yourself in it’s incredible views, take advantage of it’s perfect hiking temperatures and share in a miraculously colorful sunset at days end.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Both of my parents deserve a huge shoutout for believing in me and giving me honest feedback. It is important to have cheerleaders, but it’s imperative to have people around you that are there to help you do your best work. My parents have always believed in me and never shied away from sharing constructive criticism that has helped shape me into a better person and a better artist.
