Meet Sanya Kerney | Kiddies Korner, Childcare Director and Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sanya Kerney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sanya, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Kiddies Korner prides itself on the benefit of both our local community and the world. We do this in several ways, one being providing early childhood education that offers a structured learning environment that has a positive impact on our student’s cognitive and social development, leading to better outcomes in school and later in life. Kiddies Korner helps set our children up for success and contribute to our community’s future workforce. We also support working families by providing a safe and nurturing environment for children while their parents or caregivers are at work. Beyond this, we work towards fostering social skills and emotional development by teaching them how to communicate, share, and cooperate with others, which can help them become well-adjusted members of society. It is a mission of ours to encourage environmental stewardship by simultaneously teaching our students about conservation, recycling, and sustainability. By instilling these values at a young age, we help create a generation that is more conscious of their impact on the environment. And most importantly, we promote diversity, equity, and inclusion by being a place where children from different backgrounds come together to learn and play. Exposing these young minds to diversity at an early age showcases the importance of inclusion and acceptance in the community.

What should our readers know about your business?
Beginning my business in May of 2014, I was scared, confused, and frankly, completely lost. Having a 4th grader of my own at home, I knew that I had to be a role model to her young self and accomplish goals that I now knew were attainable. If 10 years before that someone had traveled back in time and told me I would be running my own childcare development center, I would’ve laughed and called them absurd! I have had the opportunity to refine my networking skills, gained experience in the hiring process and employment field, and most importantly, created hundreds of meaningful connections and relationships with the parents and children! The single-handedly most prominent part of my job is being able to know that I made a substantial contribution and difference in the lives of local families, who entrust my faculty, staff, and administration to take the caregiving and young education of their children’s beautiful, bright, and capable minds within our hands.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area for, let’s say a day, as a full itinerary of a week would be an endless novel of things to do in San Diego, I’d have the most perfect and relaxing day ever planned out! We’d start our morning up in Carlsbad, with brunch at the Crossroads at Carlsbad, a premier golf club and my favorite place to catch the most beautiful acai bowls and stunning views! From there, we’d head on over to Omni La Costa Resort and Spa, for a soothing deep tissue massage and facial, so rejuvenating! Then, for a daytime trip, down to Mission Valley to go to the Fashion Valley mall, as there’s truly nothing better than retail therapy. After all that shopping and eating, some tranquility is definitely needed, which is when we’d go to the most beautiful, and local, Poway Lake, my personal favorite spot ever to sit by the water, catch up with an old friend, or spend time with family. For dinner, we’d take it up, literally and figuratively, and end with a fun rooftop dinner at the Nolen Rooftop Restaurant & Bar in Downtown San Diego and walk around Gaslamp Quarter!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a preschool director, I want to give a big shoutout to our amazing staff of preschool teachers. These individuals are the heart and soul of Kiddies Korner, and they work tirelessly to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for our young learners. Our teachers are passionate about early childhood education and dedicated to helping each child reach their full potential. They bring creativity, energy, and enthusiasm to the classroom every day, inspiring our students to learn and grow.
I am proud to say that our staff of teachers is not only a team but also a family. They work together and understand the importance of collaboration and communication.They share ideas, resources, and expertise to create a cohesive curriculum that addresses the individual needs of each child.
They support each other in times of need, whether it’s covering for a colleague who is sick or providing emotional support during a difficult time. Our teachers know that they can count on each other and that they are not alone in their work.
The camaraderie and respect that our teachers have for each other create a positive workplace culture where everyone feels valued and appreciated. This positive environment spills over into the classroom, creating a sense of community among our students and families.
Their patience, kindness, and compassion make them true heroes in the eyes of our students and parents alike. They go above and beyond to ensure that every child feels valued and supported, and they always put the needs of our students first.
I am grateful for the hard work and commitment of our preschool teachers, and I am honored to work alongside them. Thank you for all that you do to make Kiddies Korner an exceptional place for children to learn and thrive. You are truly making a difference in the lives of our students and our community.
