We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Manness and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, what’s your definition for success?
I believe success is a highly personal concept that is shaped by one’s values and goals. In my photography business, my primary intention is to create high-quality, meaningful, and long-lasting memories for my clients while fostering positive relationships with them. Additionally, I strive to conduct my business in an ethical and responsible manner, treating clients with respect and fairness.

I believe that there are various factors that contribute to a business being successful, beyond financial gain, such as a balance between work and personal life, a commitment to continuously learning and improving one’s craft, and giving back to the community through charitable work.

For me, success is not only defined by the amount of money earned or the number of clients, but by the level of satisfaction and fulfillment that the business brings to both the clients and the photographer. To me, true success is measured by the positive impact we have on the lives of those we serve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey as an artist has been one of slow and steady growth. For the past six years, I have dedicated myself to mastering my craft, honing my skills and perfecting my artistic vision.

For me, photography is not just about capturing a fleeting moment in time, but about creating a tangible memory that can be cherished for a lifetime. I have always tried hard to be been diligent in my approach, taking the time to learn my camera and practicing to build my confidence and establish my style.

I am passionate about my work and have always believed in the importance of providing quality work to my clients, even before accepting payment for my services. I am grateful for the support and trust that my clients have placed in me. This has been a foundation of my success and many of them have become dear friends over the years.

My time as a Photographer has been one of continuous learning and self-discovery. With each session, I strive to push myself out of my comfort zone, learn new techniques and approaches, and connect with my clients on a deeper, more authentic level. This has been a rewarding and transformative experience, helping me to overcome my introverted nature and connect with others in ways that I never thought possible.

This year I plan to travel more. My son recently moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and I am excited to connect with people there and be able to photograph some couples and families in the beautiful Arizona desert.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me from out of state for a week, I would love to showcase the diversity and beauty of California. My husband and I are avid outdoor enthusiasts and would take them on a journey through some of our favorite places in our Jeep. A must-see destination for us is Joshua Tree National Park, with its unique and diverse landscapes. We would also drive to Big Bear, California to drive the John Bull Trail, which leads to the summit of John Bull Mountain offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Another favorite spot of ours is Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach. The clear water and stunning coastal views make it a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. Laguna Beach is a charming town with an abundance of art galleries, festivals, and outdoor activities. A trip to California would not be complete without visiting Hollywood. While there, we love to dine at Toi on Sunset for some delicious Thai food. With so many amazing places to see and things to do in California, it’s hard to pick just a few, but these are some of our favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been blessed with a circle of incredible supporters, but my husband, who gifted me my first DSLR camera, stands out as my greatest supporter. Additionally, my friend Judy Agiu, a talented photographer based in Beaufort County, SC, has provided invaluable support. The local photography community has also been a source of encouragement and positivity, and I am grateful for the generosity and support of my fellow photographers, especially Trisha Alonzo Photography and Rena Ventimiglia Photography in the High Desert.

Without my clients, I wouldn’t be doing this interview. So, you all deserve the biggest shoutout! You will never know how much I appreciate each and every one of you. Some of you have been with me from the beginning. It has been a blessing to grow with you through the years. I am grateful for the opportunity to capture your special moments and memories, to be a part of your life’s stories, and to create beautiful and lasting images that you can cherish forever.
