We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Hostetter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think life is nothing without taking risks and from a young age I learned this. I saw my parents do it, when we had our business ‘Hostetter Sand & Gravel’ and I watched them take lots of risks. I always say if you aren’t uncomfortable, you aren’t growing. And I want to be able to flourish and grow in my life so that I can create my dream life for myself!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my work is extremely unique, because I have so many lines of work that I hold individual passions for. I’m a Content Production Coordinator at Front Row, a leading 360 digital marketing global marketing agency. I’m so lucky to work there full time at the San Diego office where I help with on-set production for beauty, health, wellness, and lifestyle clients as well as help to manage influencer and content creators. I have the best team in the world and I mean that. Everyone is so creative, so smart, and truthfully, inspiring. Going to work never feels like work for me.

And on the side of being a young professional, I’ve been a model, influencer, and content creator for 6 going on 7 years now. Creating content became a passion for me in college and it just stuck. It was a creative outlet for me to work with some of my favorite brands and grew into something that became a line of work for me. I especially love reviewing beauty products, emphasizing plus-sized fashion, or just showing more of my lifestyle with others that may be pursuing similar things that I am. Modeling came out of a love for preforming.

At a young age, I was a dancer and I was in theater and I did pageants. I loved being on the stage and in front of the camera and the friendships and relationships I built through these activities meant the world to me. And next came modeling. I learned to love that I could take a piece of my childhood into adulthood where I am able to be a signed plus sized model with Dorothy Combs Models and celebrate bodies of all shapes and sizes. I was in a national commercial for Torrid in 2022 and I got to work for Disney back in 2023. I’ve done some really exciting stuff and I’m really proud of myself for accomplishing all I have accomplished.

At 16 years old, I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my left leg and multiple pulmonary embolisms and later would find out I have a rare blood disorder. And at 20, I found out I had another blood clot in my left leg. I’ll be on blood thinners for the rest of my life but this experience at an early age taught me to value life that much more. I’m proud to be a 2x blood clot survivor and I’m proud to be a voice for anyone going through anything, and to tell you that it really does get better.

Some of the clients I’ve worked with in the past include Jovani Fashions, Fabletics, Abercrombie, Yitty, Osea Malibu, Derma-E, Adore Me, Allure Bridal, Disney Weddings, Torrid, Pinsy, Miranda Frye, 2020Ave Curve, City Chic, Dolce Vita, JVN Hair, & more. I’m really thankful to have built up a pretty lengthy list of clients for my social work and modeling work, because these brands are trusting me with their vision and their look and feel. It’s been such an honor to be creative with so many brands in different ways!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s a lot about San Diego that I love but I would have to take them to the beach – specifically La Jolla and my favorite spot in the entire world, Windansea. I haven’t been now in over a year but I used to snorkel at Windansea a lot. It’s just breathtaking. Anything that gets me out in nature always recharges me since I lead such a busy life full of adventure.

When it comes to coffee, I know a lot of the good spots. Love Song in North Park is always a hit and Dark Horse Coffee Roasters too. I’ve been a big fan of Better Buzz for so long but I think Spill The Beans takes the cake as my favorite shop right now.

One of my favorite restaurants of all time in San Diego would have to be Cesarina, it’s just so good! I’m also gluten free and they have so many amazing options, from the pasta to the gluten free tiramisu. My mouth is watering as a type this.

For dessert, we would have to pop into An’s Dry Cleaning in the North Park area. Another gluten free favorite spot of mine but there’s always a line wrapped around the corner for Ann’s for a reason. The flavors are always new and unique and hit the spot for a sweet ice cream treat.

My boyfriend is Iranian and when he’s in town, we always make sure to try and go to Balboa International Market to grab some fresh Persian food. It’s always so good and hits the spot. And if the weather’s nice, a picnic at Kate Sessions is never a bad idea!

I’ve loved living in this city and all the things there are to do. Last summer one of my best friends was in town visiting and we decided to go biking around Coronado one day and the next day, we went jet skiing in Mission Bay. San Diego is full of so many fun things to do, I don’t think I could ever get bored here.

I also recently adopted the most previous dachshund from the Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles. Her name is Olivia and she has changed my life for the better. I love getting outside and taking her for walks by the beach, on Coronado, or around our neighborhood, especially as the weather starts to warm up!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family, especially my mom. My mom has been such a huge part of inspiring me and supporting me through the ups and downs of life. She has always supported every big leap of faith I’ve taken or been there with a listening ear for new ideas I have and things I want to do. She is the strongest person I know and her strength inspires me to work hard everyday. I would also say my friends have been a huge part of my success. They’re like family to me, and a lot of them have been by my side from when I was younger until now. It’s been so fun seeing us all grow and thrive together.
