Meet S.G. Blaise | Award-Winning Sci-Fi Fantasy Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with S.G. Blaise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi S.G., we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing many people don’t know about the book industry is how many hats a self-published author wears. From developing the story to line edits to marketing to publishing; self-published authors must take on all roles needed from development to release. Every author must choose a publishing route. Each path has its own pros and cons. It’s important to pick one that works for you. I chose to self publish because it gives me creative control. Creative control is very important to me because I have specific goals in mind for my story and the characters within it. It also means that I can build the Last Lumenian series as I see fit at a pace I prefer rather than to meet a deadline set by someone else. Being a self-published author is not without challenges, but having the power in deciding the fate in my series makes it worthwhile.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve learned so much since beginning my journey. It has shown me the importance of pursuing your passion regardless of the fears that come with starting something new. Learning is part of growing and worth it in the end. Developing the Last Lumenian Series is a dream come true for me. Since the release of my debut novel, The Last Lumenian, my series has gained over 25 award wins and honors, and recently my website, sgblaise.com is an Official Webby Award Honore. It hasn’t been without challenges. One of the hardest lessons I had to learn when I started writing my first book was patience. Not knowing when my book would be ready to publish added a level of uncertainty that was challenging to accept. When I embraced the journey and learned to enjoy the process, my focus shifted from the unknown to appreciating all the mini-accomplishments along the way. I hope through my journey, others will see that it is never too late to follow their dreams and to enjoy the process rather than focusing on the end goal.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When an out-of-town friend visits, I love to explore Balboa park and check out a few of the wonderful museums. After, we would take a drive through beautiful Downtown San Diego until we reach the Waterfront Park. Looking at the ocean, lounging, and reading near the water at the park. When the hunger sets in, it’s always fun to get a bite to eat and a few drinks at a local restaurant in Little Italy. But always making sure we save enough time to drive to the La Jolla shores for the best view to watch the sunset.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out a few of my author friends. Laura Haver, author of Play Together, for providing an incredible support system through our Author Mom’s group. Also, my dear friends Christine Germain, author of the Brother’s Curse Saga, and LaShane Arnette, author of The Pain Eater, Go Ask Lashane, and The Magic Man, for their overwhelming, wonderful support on social media.
