Meet S.G. Blaise | Award Winning Sci-Fi/Fantasy Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with S.G. Blaise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi S.G., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was a difficult decision to start my own business, but I’m glad I did. Choosing to self publish my book and build a franchise business around my characters gave me creative control every step of the way. This creative control was very important to me because I have specific goals in mind for my story and the characters. It also means that I can build the franchise as I see fit, with plans to add comic books and other media. I liked the idea of building my own team and finding complementary skill sets across the trades.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m so honored and proud that my first book, The Last Lumenian, has 22 award wins and honors in its first year. This series is very important to me because it represents female empowerment and diverse characters. The main hero Lilla struggles with claustrophobia induced panic attacks, yet she overcomes them to achieve her goal at the end. This struggle conveys the message that you don’t have to be perfect to be a hero.
I think one of the hardest lessons I learned when I started out writing the first book was patience. Not knowing when the book would be ready for publishing added a level of uncertainty that was difficult to accept. But once I embraced the journey and learned to enjoy the process, my focus shifted from the unknown to appreciating all the mini-accomplishments along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Moving to San Diego has been like a never ending and wonderful vacation. I discovered lots of great spots to visit. To start with, I would take my friend to Balboa Park. This park has lots of interesting sites like the Air & Space Museum and Comicon Museum. Another great spot in Balboa Park is the San Diego Zoo. Next, I would show my friend Seaport Village and walk along the waterfront. It has such an amazing view of the ocean. Next, we would enjoy a cocktail in the Gaslamp District. We would finish the day by crossing the bridge to Coronado Island, and grabbing dinner at the Grand Del Mar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
