We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Zomorodi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Real estate has had a troubled history with discriminatory practices that have had a profound impact on wealth disparities in our society. One such practice was redlining, which was unfortunately prevalent from the 1930s to the 1960s. Back then, people in predominantly non-white neighborhoods were unjustly denied mortgage loans and housing opportunities. As a result, poverty became concentrated in those communities, and their ability to accumulate wealth was severely limited. Sadly, these discriminatory practices have had long-lasting effects that continue to impact generations today.

At Real Estate Skills, we take great pride in our commitment to inclusivity and serving people from all walks of life. As a real estate education company, our primary goal is to provide individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances, with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the real estate business. We firmly believe in empowering people of all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to participate in the industry and overcome the barriers that have contributed to the wealth gap. By offering equal opportunities and valuable education, we hope to be a part of the solution and help bridge the divide in real estate wealth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Real Estate Skills, we help people start and grow their very own real estate investing businesses. By leveraging technology, we are able to create opportunities for anyone in any location to become their own boss and create an income through the strategies we practice and teach our students.

There’s nothing that fires me up more than celebrating each one of our students when they reach a big milestone, like starting their first company or closing on their next real estate deal. Even though I’ve closed many deals and helped others replicate that success, everyone’s story is unique and each milestone means something different to them.

Every real estate market has its own nuances, from property types to contracts and regional customs. Being a real estate education company with a national reach, we are always at the forefront of working through these specific market dynamics to provide practical solutions for our clients regardless of where anyone is located throughout the country.

On a personal note, my passion for real estate investing grew out of necessity. I was working a 60-hour workweek corporate sales job for a Fortune 50 company straight out of college. While it looked like a great job on paper, I quickly realized that there was a firm cap on not only the income I could earn but the relevant and valuable skills I would be learning. The stark reality of corporate America hit me hard during my first year in this role. I realized that my employer did not actually want me to become wealthy and financially independent. They ideally wanted me to work my way up the corporate ladder and be their employee for the indefinite future.

While this was certainly the “safer” and more traditional path, I had always aspired to become more successful and independent than any job opportunity could provide. This caused me to research the most reliable ways to become independently wealthy, and thus I landed on entrepreneurship, investing, and real estate.

I started reading books, connecting with mentors, and talking to other real estate investors and entrepreneurs. Over the following years, I quit my job and started acquiring rental properties, flipping houses, and wholesaling real estate. In the first year of going all in on real estate, I had replaced the income that I had from my corporate gig. The following year, I doubled it. Keep in mind, I started out with minimal personal savings, so I had to get creative through partnerships and financial partners in order to eventually scale to a national level.

As I shared my wins and message with others, I would often get requests from individuals asking how I was investing in real estate all over the country with such ease. While it wasn’t easy by any means, I realized that many others can benefit from my specific, relevant knowledge, and willingness to teach others.

Now, I am grateful to be on the other side of the table, coaching others on how to create income on their own terms and reach their goals in real estate. If I can make it happen, I firmly believe that anyone who has a burning desire can do it too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1: Arrival and Coastal Exploration

We would kick off the trip with a visit to the iconic Balboa Park, known for its beautiful gardens, museums, and architecture.

We would then head to La Jolla Cove, where we can enjoy the stunning coastal views, watch seals and sea lions, and perhaps even take a kayak tour or snorkel in the clear waters.

For dinner, we would dine at a waterfront restaurant in the La Jolla Village. Duke’s at La Jolla has great Hawaiian-style cuisine with sweeping ocean views.

Day 2: Beach Day and Local Brews

We would spend the day at one of San Diego’s beautiful beaches, such as Blacks Beach, Pacific Beach, or Mission Beach, where we can soak up the sun, surf, or paddleboard.

In the evening, we would visit one of San Diego’s renowned craft breweries, such as Harland Brewing or Modern Times, to sample a variety of locally brewed beers and enjoy the vibrant craft beer culture.

Day 3: Cultural Exploration and Delicious Eats

We would start the day by visiting the historic Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, where we can immerse ourselves in the city’s rich history and enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine at one of the many local eateries.

In the afternoon, we would explore the vibrant neighborhoods of North Park and South Park, known for their eclectic shops, trendy cafes, and excellent dining options. We might grab dinner at Menya Ultra for some ramen or Lefty’s for some of the best thin-crust pizza in town, depending on our mood.

Day 4: Outdoor Adventures and Sunset Views

We would embark on a hiking adventure in Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, enjoying the breathtaking views of the coastline and the unique flora and fauna of the area.

Later in the day, we would head to Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, a picturesque location where we can witness a stunning sunset over the Pacific Ocean. We’ll wind down for sushi at The Joint in Ocean Beach along with an evening beach stroll.

Day 5: Zoo Exploration and Downtown Vibes

We would spend the day at the renowned San Diego Zoo, exploring its vast collection of animals from around the world and enjoying educational presentations and exhibits.

In the evening, we would explore the lively downtown area, strolling along the waterfront promenade, checking out the USS Midway Museum, and enjoying dinner at Buon Appetito or Barbusa in the Little Italy neighborhood.

Day 6: Excursion to Coronado Island

After grabbing a breakfast burrito at Salud Tacos in Barrio Logan, we would take a ferry to Coronado Island, known for its pristine beaches and the historic Hotel del Coronado. We can relax on the beach, rent bikes to explore the island, and savor a delicious meal and a brew at one of the scenic waterfront restaurants.

Day 7: Relaxation and Farewell

To wrap up the trip, we would spend a day of relaxation at one of San Diego’s spa resorts or enjoy a leisurely brunch at a coastal eatery, savoring the last moments before bidding farewell to this beautiful city.
