Meet Ryan Sullivan

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Oh man when I was younger I believed a good work life balance was working less and doing more of the things I wanted to do but now I work more than I ever have and I’m happier doing it. I think balance can be a tricky thing especially as a entrepreneur it’s really easy to loose yourself in work and forget everything else (social life, hobbies, basic life tasks) so now I have checks and balances in place that force me to unplug from work and spend that time doing other things.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well I own and operate Sullivan Tree Service out of Sonora CA. We are the only company in the area that is apart of Atmostree which is an organization dedicated to planting more trees than are removed. We are also one of the few companies in our area with ISA certified Arborist on staff and on every job. This company kind of started by accident really it was originally just to make a bit of side money but over the years evolved into a full fledged company. The whole process was definitely not easy especially the last 2-3 years we have been working on scaling the business for the future which takes alot of time, money, and hard work. The biggest hurdle in this field is experience and capital you can’t get one without the other and both are needed to grow. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is patience is paramount nothing great will happen overnight but great things will happen given enough time and dedication.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely take a day trip to Yosemite National park and grab a bite to eat in Groveland at Mountain Sage (great coffee). Later in the week we would probably hit the slopes at dodge ridge ski resort and end the day at Bear Tent brewing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a bunch of people to thank but really the biggest supporters have been my fiancé and friends/coworkers without them I wouldn’t be where I’m at now and the company wouldn’t be what it is now. All of them have sacrificed so much over the years and given so much support both physically and emotionally.
