Meet Rosa & Victor Rodriguez | Local Paleteros

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa & Victor Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosa & Victor, what are you inspired by?
We are inspired by our three children Tony, Gabriel & Chelsey. We want to be the parents that we wanted growing up and for them to experience life without having the pressure of breaking generational curses. We’ve put into work to break those barriers so that they can have a life with less worry and more success. They’ve definitely pushed us and inspired us to be the best version of ourselves not just for us but for them as well.

What should our readers know about your business?
Rodriguez Paletas is a Family owned and operated business in San Diego. We started last year with the hopes of building a brand that our children can love and carry as they grow up. One thing we love is bringing smiles one paleta at a time as well as educating where we can about Paletero Culture. Sharing the Paletero culture to us is sharing the experience we use to have as kids when the ice cream would come and building that Village and memories for these children who come grab an ice cream. We went all in and honestly blew up a lot quicker than we expected lol. We decided to bring that nostalgic feeling of seeing the ice cream man pass by your house and being able to have it at your event. Definitely not an easy process as we are first generation business owners and had to learn everything from permits , licensing, marketing and all the fun behind the scene stuff but it has helped us learn more and be able to share that with fellow starting business owners. We want people to know that supporting your Local Street Vendors is much more meaningful when you realize your supporting a dream and our success is our communities success because we are all in this together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely a week visiting our fellow businesses in Barrio Logan. The energy, food and overall experience is always amazing. You have small mom and pop food spots with the most delicious foods, you can shop at places where your things are handmade with love like Sew Loka and the Art Hub. Checking out the local book store Libelula Books & Co for a comfortable spot to get a book or wanting a delicious coffee at Por Vida as they have a great selection, I don’t personally like to drink beer but if they wanted some great drinks and food I’d recommend Mujeres Brew House to enjoy the weekend with some music. We’d definitely go to Chicano Park and see the beautiful murals that show our culture, history and you can learn a lot from the art painted there while sitting and enjoying your lunch maybe even catching some Lowriders cruising by.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our Community has definitely been very supportive of our journey and we couldn’t be more thankful for everyone who shared the love with us and the support to help keep watering the seed we planted as we started our business.
