We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricardo Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricardo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My wife Priscilla and I have always shared a deep passion for coffee. While living in Virginia, we spent time exploring coffee shops up and down the East Coast, paying close attention to what made each one unique from their ambiance and service to the quality of the coffee itself. That experience really inspired us.

When we moved back home to San Diego, I took a job at a local coffee shop to gain hands-on experience and learn the operational side of the business. Through that, I developed a real appreciation for the craft and the level of detail that goes into creating a great customer experience.

As we began planning our own venture, we realized that launching a full brick-and-mortar café would require significant capital and time. So, we decided to take a more strategic route starting with a mobile coffee catering business. Regium Coffee allows us to stay close to our passion while building our brand and reputation step by step, with the long-term goal of eventually expanding into a permanent location.

What should our readers know about your business?
Absolutely! We started Regium Coffee in December 2024, so we’re relatively new, but we’ve already found a special place in San Diego’s coffee scene. Regium is a mobile coffee catering company focused on delivering high-quality drinks and meaningful service at private and corporate events.

Mobile coffee catering is a niche space, and what sets us apart is how much we offer from such a compact setup. We roll in with a full espresso machine and serve handcrafted lattes, matcha, chai, and more all using high-quality ingredients. We’re proud of how versatile and elevated our drink menu is on the go.

What we want the world to know about Regium is that we’re constantly growing as business owners, baristas, and members of our community. Our mission is bigger than coffee. We’re both Christians, and our name, Regium, comes from the Latin word for “royalty.” It’s a subtle but powerful reminder of who we ultimately serve and it often sparks great conversations at our events.

We love San Diego, and we’re passionate about giving back especially to those who serve our community or are in need. At the end of the day, it’s not just about the drinks. It’s about the people, the moments, and the purpose behind everything we do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course! San Diego has so much to offer, I almost feel bad leaving anything off the list. If my best friend was visiting for a week, here’s how I’d show them the best of the city.

For food, we’d start with Sayulitas for incredible Mexican street food, El Prieto for some of the best seafood around, Tribute Pizza for a killer slice, and Nishiki Ramen for a cozy bowl of perfection. San Diego’s food scene is diverse and always delivering.

For views, I’d take them to Cabrillo National Monument. You get an unbeatable view of downtown, the harbor with boats cruising in, fighter jets flying out of North Island, and commercial planes looping out of SAN. Then, if you turn around, you’re staring out at the vast Pacific Ocean. It’s like a living postcard.

We’d also take a scenic drive to Julian for some famous apple pie and a bit of small-town charm. Back in the city, we’d spend time at Coronado Beach, walking the shore, exploring the Hotel Del, and grabbing a great cup of coffee from Parakeet Café.

Speaking of coffee, San Diego has one of the best coffee scenes in the country. I’d take them to some of my favorite spots: Bird Rock Coffee, Genteel Coffee, Shepherd’s Coffee, Selva Coffee, 7 Seas Roasters, Lovesong Coffee, and Quiet Storm Roasters. Each shop has its own vibe and helps shape the city’s unique coffee culture.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I’ve been blessed with incredible mentors, both in life and in the coffee community, who have shaped my journey in powerful ways.

On the coffee side, having someone who’s already walked the road you’re on makes a huge difference. Remzi from Coffee’nTalk has been especially generous with his time and knowledge, helping me navigate the challenges of launching a mobile coffee business. Like the saying goes, “It’s good to learn from your mistakes, but it’s better to learn from other people’s mistakes.”

On the personal side, my faith and the Christian community have been a strong pillar for me. I’ve had the privilege of learning from mentors back in Virginia who poured into me spiritually and personally. Much of my growth has come from their guidance and the books they recommended like The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, How Faith Works by Frederick K.C. Price, and Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

Most importantly, I want to give a special shoutout to our families. Priscilla and I couldn’t have taken this leap without their constant encouragement and support. They’ve been our foundation and our motivation to take that first step and keep going.
