We had the good fortune of connecting with Ramon Pasos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ramon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was, I was let go from a mobile home management company called Star Management here in Orange County, California, it was right around Christmas time of 2017, on my way home to my family, I called me wife and stated to her that I was done working on other human beings schedule, I was done being told when to be in the office, I was done being told when to take lunch, I was done being told how to dress to come to work, I was completely done with the corporate structure and how things SHOULD be done based on others.
Once I got home, I filled for unemployment and once I was approved, I used my last pay check and my EDD benefits to pay my rent and also start my own property management business. I was fed up with the corporate structure of things and from there, RP. Consultants LLC was born!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of RP. Consultants LLC. which is a property management consultation firm, we manage properties for investment clients, what sets us apart from other property management firms is, we allow our clients to manage their own monies, most management companies don’t do that, the management companies take control of bank accounts and supply monthly documents of where the money has been spent for the month, we don’t do that, we allow you to control the money so you can see where every penny is being spent.
Trust me when I tell you, starting this business and even maintaining it to this day has been a challenge, the more I grow, the more I need help but at the moment because I have created this pretty personal service none of my clients want to deal with anyone else but me. This creates a challenge because now I can’t delegate task to others.
I have learned a ton of lessons along the way, not every client is exactly the same, some are easier to deal with than others and you learn, not everyone is the same, some want invoices that are on paper and others are ok with photos and zelle payments. Some want things done one way, others are old fashion.
I am part of a fakebook group called, “SoCalRentals” I only joined the group for one reason, that is to help both tenants and landlords avoid lawsuits in the state of California and you will be surprised at how many comments I get of some landlords being slumlords and some tenants trying to beat the system. I DO NOT charge for my services at all, I also do NOT give legal advice as I am not an attorney but I don’t mind helping in anyway possible, I want people to know that there is a correct way to manage investment properties from both sides and that is what we do here at RP. Consultants LLC.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone was coming to visit, there trip would be a little different than the normal, I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York and we aren’t much of sight seers at all. People come to New York and want to see Central Park and Times Square etc. as New Yorkers, we see that everyday so we don’t care about that stuff so most of the visitors that come out to see me are on the same page that I am.
For someone who isn’t, the first location would be the beach, when I first got to California, I wanted to see everything, Hollywood, Compton, South Central, all of the things we saw on tv as New Yorker, the music we listened to, I wanted to see if it was like it was on TV. So people that visit that have never been to California before, that is where we start, I live in Huntington Beach so being from New York, we cherish our food so if you really, really, want good food, first stop is LA. After we eat, then we can go to the piers, Santa Monica, Long Beach, Redondo, if you like seafood, that is where we go for seafood dinners. Life can be fun in California, you just have to travel in order to do so.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few people who can contribute to my story, my mother (Denise Brooks) being the first, watching her be a single mother for the most part because I do have a step dad but watching her be the center of our family was all the motivation I needed. I used to work in the medical field so, Simon Clarke, the person who taught me the real estate business is also a determining factor in my success, he showed me the ropes and I have never looked back!
