Meet Rachel Shemirani | Senior Vice President

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Shemirani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want people to remember about you? Our employees are the key to our success. We invest a lot of time and energy into developing and teaching our employees because we want our people to love what they do. We’ve created a culture where our employees can try new things and make mistakes. Some of the best ideas have come from solving a problem or fixing a mistake. And finally, we believe that if our employees are happy, then our customers will be happy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Barons Market is an organic natural specialty food store. We are a small local neighborhood market, but we now have nine locations serving Southern California. We’re all about having good food at reasonable prices. So for us, we want to make the food shopping experience really fun, but also really affordable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Blue Sky Reserve in Torrey Pines, Eppig Brewing in Point Loma and Rico’s Taco Shop in Encinitas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, Judy Shemirani. When my father and his brothers first started Barons Market, my mother was behind the scenes managing the accounting for the company on top of working full time as a registered nurse AND raising three kids. Throughout the years, she has helped us navigate the emotional ups and downs of running a small business. We had asked her to consider retiring this year but when the pandemic started, she knew that she had to stay and help where she could. This was her duty as a nurse. So my shoutout is dedicated to her and all the other amazing nurses, doctors and other frontline employees.
