We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
I recently spoke at TEDx about how breaking up with Corporate at the age of 40, as a single mother to start my own business from home, was pretty terrifying. However, breaking up with that business after scaling it to 7 figures in order to pursue my purpose and lean towards my desire to make an impact, is the epitome of “feel the fear – do it any”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where do I begin! Being spoiled with great weather, the only challenge with planning a day trip out here is narrowing down all the fantastic options.

Personally, I love being on the water, so starting the day on a duffy in the harbor or on an ocean charter to watch the dolphins and whales is a big win!

From there, catching a seaside lunch at Vessel or spending the day in Balboa Park, enjoying the sites on the trolley is also a fun way to bridge the gap between day and night. But once the sun sets, the Gaslamp district is always an interesting and entertaining place to explore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I believe that success is French – WE!

There’s no denying that the amount of people who I could thank for every meaningful moment and milestone along my entrepreneurial journey, is vast. However, there are certain individuals who make an impact every single day and anyone building a business would be so fortunate as to have a support system of people like them.

Everyone should have a Daneen who is a loyal sounding board, who see’s the vision and is willing to make the long trek with you no matter how delusional the roadmap may seem. Jackie is one who can spot the things you can’t and never gate-keeps, while Maria makes a team feel like family. Having a friend like Delia in your life will add a sense of humor and adventure, while a friend who doubles as a mentor, like Josie, will help you shine like a superstar! Having all 5 means you’ve struck gold!

In addition, I surround myself with friends who aim high, and I’m intentional about aligning with those who inspire me – and the list is long! But family is who I thank to keep my feet on the ground, and God is who lights my path every step of the way.
