Meet Q Minor | Drummer – Phantom Witch

We had the good fortune of connecting with Q Minor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Q, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Having good bandmates is key. At the end of the day, the band – like any business – has needs that have to be met. Someone has to order the merch, pick up the merch, write the music, record the music, book the shows, coordinate the shows, etc. Good bandmates will pick up those tasks – often without being asked – and that helps the balance.
For me, even with good bandmates, my day job, and my personal life, I still just end up not sleeping haha!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music has been a part of my life since before I can remember. It almost seems like I was fated to be a drummer from a young age, sitting in my grandmother’s lap at church with a pair of sticks to follow along with the drummer (Or rather, for him to follow along with me, ha!)
It has not been easy, it’s been a long long road full of lineup changes, inopportune setbacks, and raw deals, but we’ve persevered through it all. The biggest lesson that comes to mind is that we have to advocate for ourselves. No one will throw you a bone, you have to reach out and demand it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The DNA Lounge always has something fun going on. You can almost always find a good metal show either there or at Toot’s Tavern in Crockett, just over the bay bridge.
The CA Academy of Sciences just put on a Dinosaur exhibit, and the child in me is very happy about this, I’d say that’s a must-see!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to shoutout my brothers in FROLIC. They’re a phenomenal Thrash Metal act from right here in he Bay Area, and they’ve been KILLING it with their live shows as of late. Check out their debut release “Fusion of Spirits” for some shredding melodic death thrash.
