We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Hard work, passion and a dedication to learning your craft is a sure path to succeed in business and anything else in life. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people and learning from those who have had success in the past will help sky rocket your growth and avoid some pitfalls along the way. I spent years learning everything I could about the apparel industry from how to run a business, to the in’s and out’s of manufacturing, understanding fabrications, fit and design. Being such a fast paced industry, there is always something new to learn and having that dedication and passion will keep your business pointing in the right direction.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, MVA Design & Supply, is a creative production company focused on supporting brands, companies and non-profit organizations. We specialize in creative graphics/ design, manufacturing, both locally and offshore, and consultation in the areas of strategic brand positioning, marketing and trends. We love working with people who appreciate the knowledge and customer service we provide. I started MVA from a need to really focus on the customer and provide a service that is dedicated to their needs. We provide personal project management for all of our clients, no matter the size or market position they hold and we value communication at all points along the production timeline. Our clients really appreciate our attention to detail. One of our mottos is to treat others as you would like to be treated. Genuine kindness goes a long way in business and we often receive new enquiries from an existing clients referral.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop, In N Out Burger for sure. Other places on the bucket list would be: – Ponto beach for a swim/ surf – Brockton Villa in La Jolla for brunch – George’s in La Jolla for dinner – Carlsbad Village for some local shopping – Encinitas for a pub crawl – USS Midway in San Diego – Petco Stadium to catch a Padres game – Coronado Island for a lazy day biking around the island and hanging out at Hotel Del.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I grew up in Australia and a lot of my knowledge and skills was forged in fashion school (South Metropolitan TAFE) learning from my teachers and mentors. I was fortunate enough to also surround myself with people within the industry who were kind enough to train me and give me advise through specific work placements. During my 2nd year, I launched my first apparel brand and quickly understood the need to learn the business aspect of running a successful brand. I reached out to a prominent business owner who ran a highly successful mining company and asked him to be my business mentor for a year and he kindly obliged. His leadership and guidance on how to run a business successfully fueled my brand’s growth! He constantly challenged and pushed me to go beyond my comfort zone and he helped me understand the importance of a solid business foundation and marketing strategy. Ultimately, his belief in me lead to his company becoming an investor in my brand. What I learnt from these experiences was to never be afraid to ask for advise or ask for help. In asking, you might receive more than you ever dreamed.
