We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Dawn Quimzon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I’m still on my journey into becoming more of a multi-faceted creative, I’m incredibly proud that I’m a full-time paid creative. I used to think that having a role like this was out of reach for me, but I somehow finessed the events in my life to lead me here! It took a lot of sleepless nights, graveyard shifts, and necessary life-growing choices to live this creative life filled with creatively real people. How I managed to overcome all of this was by not fearing taking risks anymore. I wouldn’t change a single thing about the life I’ve paved thus far. If it weren’t for the trials, tribulations, and honest mistakes I’ve made in the past, then I wouldn’t be the person I am now.

Right now, I’m currently in the process of editing and coloring my short film which I’m hoping to have finalized in the earlier part of the summer. It’s my first short experimental film after my time at the SDSU film program and nearly financed by myself. It’s a small little flick that I’m anticipating will ramp up me and my collaborator, Lizeth Ray’s, desire to create a lengthier short film in the near future.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooof, I can provide two different scenarios based on budget because I love to be frugal but also boogie when the occasion calls for it (truly a blessing and a curse one would say).

For a more fiscally conservative type of outing, I would stop by Sea Hive at Liberty Station where they have an assortment of small business popup shops ranging from vintage clothing to antiques to peruse through for unique finds! Then we would stop by Con Pane Rustic for their focaccia bread and honey lavender latte. Lastly, we’d end the day walking through the Art Walk at Liberty Station (assuming the day falls on one of their event dates) to look at the local artists work in their studios and chat with them about their work.

Now for a more boogie-esque (and drunken-filled, social) experience, we would head to Cowboy Star in downtown for a delicious happy hour with cocktails and steak. Then to Cloak and Petal for more cocktails and to walk the town at night in Little Italy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes of course! That one person would have to be my loving partner, sonuvagun, more-than-just-a-boyfriend Oscar Villa. I honestly don’t know if I would be where I’m at if it wasn’t for him supporting my creative passions for nearly 10 years. He has seen me at my absolute best and my absolute worst, and yet he always saw the potential in me. I could not be any more grateful to have him by my side as I continue to my journey as a creative. I hope I’ll be able to buy and build him a stupid expensive gaming PC to show how much I appreciate him!
