Meet Pamela Corey | Spray Tan Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Corey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Tans by Pam is the commitment to making clients feel comfortable and confident. This is achieved through personalized communication, where new clients are provided with an overview of what to expect during their first session and I always follow-up after each tan to ensure they love it! By creating a welcoming environment, every body feels safe and accepted, regardless of body type, in a professional salon setting where undressing can be inherently uncomfortable. The focus on client experience ensures that individuals feel good whether they are preparing for a vacation, a special event, or simply treating themselves. This dedication to personalized care and consistent follow-up fosters a trusting and loyal client base, leading to numerous referrals and repeat customers, and ultimately driving the brand’s ongoing success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of my work ethic. No matter what challenges I’ve faced, I have never given up and refuse to stop doing what I love. In late 2019, I was let go from my career in retail, a job I adored, due to the owner being imprisoned for a $400 million Ponzi scheme that affected many innocent people, including myself. Losing my job and investment money was emotionally devastating, and it was hard to picture what came next. Shortly after, the pandemic hit, adding to the uncertainty as everything shut down. Despite these setbacks, I focused on personal and professional growth. I turned to something I loved—spray tans—and began to build a business around it. What started small has continued to grow, leading me to where I am today.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend visits, we always kick things off at JRDN for some of our favorite rosé, sushi rolls, and salad. We love sitting on the patio with a great view of the boardwalk and beach.

Other favorite activities include hiking Three Sisters near Julian and exploring the town afterward. The San Diego Zoo is always a must-visit, whether with or without my friend’s kids—it’s always a fun time!

My fiancé and I also enjoy renting a boat from Freedom Boat Club and taking friends out for a fun day on the bay.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of my clients and friends. A huge THANK YOU for supporting me from my start in a tiny kitchen to mobile tanning, to opening two salon spaces, and for continuing to follow, refer, and help me grow. I wouldn’t be here without your belief and encouragement.

Secondly, thank you to my mentor, Alex Roder, Founder of Bare Organic Tan. I’ve watched her grow her brand for over 10 years and have learned so much from her. Despite being a busy mom, wife, friend, and entrepreneur, she always takes the time to guide and help me.

Lastly, thank you to my fiancé, Charlie, my #1 cheerleader. You’ve been by my side through every challenge, encouraging me to learn, grow, and chase my dreams. Thank you for never letting me give up.
