We had the good fortune of connecting with Pakko De La Torre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pakko, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
We’ve all heard the saying, “no risk, no reward.” But what does that really mean? And how do you know if a risk is worth taking?
For me, taking risks has always been a major part of my life. As a teenager, I was always working on creative and technology projects that hadn’t been done before. It paid off, as I was able to stay ahead of the times in so many ways. Even when I was a teenager, I co-founded a company called eritmo.com, where it was possible to stream music legally and even build personalized playlists. This start-up went on to raise 7 figures with the help of Universal Music and other investors. This happened 6 years before Spotify was born. Although it didn’t take off it paved the way ahead for me in my career, thinking of new ideas to stay ahead of the times in order to identify innovative opportunities. Augmented Reality is such an example. I began working with this technology in 2012, before anyone even knew what it was. Fast forward to today, and it is now one of the fastest and most promising technologies that may change forever how we interact with everything in real life. With Gallery Arc, we are taking risks but excited to be part of this future ahead.
When it comes to taking risks, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. You have to assess each situation individually and weigh the pros and cons. But if you’re ever feeling stuck in a rut, taking a risk can be a great way to jumpstart your life and career.
Taking risks can lead to some pretty amazing rewards. Here are just a few of the benefits that come from taking risks that benefited me:
1. You’ll Stand Out from the Crowd
In today’s day and age, it’s more important than ever to stand out from the crowd. There are so many people competing for jobs, clients, and attention that you need to find a way to set yourself apart. One way to do that is by taking risks. When you take risks, you show that you’re not afraid to try new things or step outside your comfort zone. This type of thinking will make you more attractive to potential employers, investors, clients, and customers.
2. You’ll Learn More About Yourself
When you take risks, you’ll learn more about who you are and what you’re capable of. This can be both good and bad—but it’s always valuable information to have. You might discover that you’re braver than you thought or that you’re not as good at something as you’d hoped—but either way, you’ll come out of the experience with a better understanding of yourself.
3. You Might Fail…and That’s Okay!
One of the biggest fears people have when it comes to taking risks is failure. But guess what? Failure is totally okay! In fact, it’s an essential part of the learning process. If you never fail, then how will you ever know what works and what doesn’t? Embrace failure as part of the journey and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow. When my music start-up failed, I never saw it as a setback. It was like having 10 years of Harvard-like education in the span of 2 years. Priceless experiences.
4. You’ll Be More Successful in the Long Run
Research has shown that people who take more risks are more successful in the long run than those who play it safe all the time. This makes sense when you think about it—if you’re constantly pushing yourself to try new things, then you’re bound to achieve more than someone who sticks with the status quo. So if you’re looking for success, don’t be afraid to take some risks.
Conclusion:
Taking risks can be scary—but the rewards can be well worth it. If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, taking a risk could be just what you need to jumpstart your life or career. From standing out from the crowd to learning more about yourself, there are countless benefits that come from taking risks. So go out there and seize every opportunity—you never know where it might lead. It has certainly made me feel like everything is possible and it should do the same for you if you give it a try.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind and lose sight of your long-term goals. But if you want to be successful, you have to stay focused and consistent. That’s why I am so proud of our team at Gallery Arc. Despite the challenges we’ve faced, we’ve stayed focused on our mission and we’re consistently working to bring value and experience to the Web3 space.
Our Story
Gallery Arc is a Web3 company that is on a mission to enable creators of all types to create, manage, and transact Web3 properties. We believe that the interoperability of our platform will create greater value and experience by bridging the universe with the metaverse.
We started our journey in 2018 and it hasn’t been easy. The web3/crypto market crashed earlier this year, but we used that as an opportunity to reflect on our business and make sure that we were still on track. We realized that we needed to refocus our efforts on our core mission: bringing value and experience to the Web3 space.
The Road Ahead
We’re excited about the road ahead and we believe that our focus on delivering value and experience will help us achieve our goals. We’re committed to working hard every day to bring incredible augmented reality experiences to life for our users.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
La Jolla Cove is a top item on many San Diego itineraries, but what many visitors don’t realize is that there’s an even more delightful spot just north of the Cove at Sunny Jim Sea Cave. Named for its resemblance to the British Force Wheat Cereal mascot, Sunny Jim Cave is one of only a handful of La Jolla sea caves that you can access by land. Beyond its unique name and rugged appeal, Sunny Jim Cave is also worth checking out for the charming gift store that houses the staircase entrance to the cave.
Once one descends the 151 steps into the cave, my guests will feel like they’ve stepped back in time. Although it’s now a popular tourist destination, Sunny Jim Cave was once thought to be a speakeasy. Today, the cave still has a bit of that illicit charm, but it’s now home to a cute boutique with products ranging from trendy to quirky.
Whether anyone I invite to San Diego is looking for a unique place to take photos or simply want to experience something new on their next trip to San Diego, Sunny Jim Sea Cave is definitely worth a visit. With its rich history and charming atmosphere, Sunny Jim Cave is one of those rare gems that they’ll remember long after their vacation is over.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a lot of who I am today to my parents. They have always pushed me to be the best that I can be, even more so since I was born deaf or hard-of-hearing. I didn’t begin speaking until I was about 5-6 years old, as I lived in a silent world but full of curiosity and willingness to take risks and figure things out. My parents always encouraged me to never give up and to always keep pushing myself.
I also owe a big portion of my career path to my teacher and mentor Roland Young from Art Center College of Design. If it weren’t for him, I would not be where I am today. He single-handedly changed the course of my career, pushing me to be the best ever. He ignited a fire in me to push myself harder than any teacher I’ve ever had. Thanks to him, I am now confident and successful in a field that I love.
These people who have influenced me the most are those who have pushed me to be the best that I can be. In conclusion – My parents instilled in me a never-give-up attitude, and Roland Young showed me what it means to truly dedicate oneself to one’s craft. These people have made me who I am today, and for that, I am forever grateful.
