We had the good fortune of connecting with Nish Goel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nish, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had been in corporate America (Great Western, Countrywide, Bank of America, etc..) for over 25 years. Having climbed the corporate ladder to a management position didn’t give me much satisfaction. In fact, the trajectory up didn’t appeal to me, I could see that in order to move further up, it would take politics and a ‘You Fail. I Succeed’ attitude to get promoted.

I had begun my spiritual journey, learning meditation and a ‘oneness’ philosophy hence wanted to do something altruistic. I decided to utilize my creativity and project management skills to begin a company.

The name of the company, ‘SwanLAgo” appealed to me as I envisioned our products (luxury accessories for individuals) as transformative, I was reminded of the tale of the ‘ugly duckling’ transforming into a beautiful swan’. I wanted the word, ‘LA’ to be within the name to reflect our location. The word, ‘lago’ means island and it resonated in me, as a sanctuary where goodness and kindness prevailed. I wanted a business which made money and was self sustaining but I also wanted to give back to causes dear to my heart (Alzheimer’s Association, Downtown Women’s Center, USC scholarship fund, etc..).

Soon after, began SwanLAgo.com.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My experiences in life, the people I met in my journey all deserve my ‘shoutout’. My philosophy in life has always been very philosophical. Every encounter or experience that I’ve had has been part of my destiny, to learn a skillset or lesson or to teach someone else something.

There’s no one person or experience that can be identified.

It’s a combination of good and bad. Even the worse encounters taught me that I had to change/evolve to continue my journey. If I didn’t learn the lesson, it was presented to me again and again, in various forms.
