Meet Nicole Lyn

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Lyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, how do you think about risk?
When I think of risks, I automatically jump into this idea of fear and the idea of being judged. I’m naturally introverted and my biggest fear is taking risks, putting myself out there and doing things that are out of my comfort zone. I have learned, however, over time it’s ok to take those risks and it’s important for self-growth.
I remember sitting at work one day and I just got this incredible urge to take a risk and start posting on TikTok. I have no idea where the urge came from, but I always chalk it up to getting myself out of the same mundane tasks that I got into the habit of. It was very rewarding because my first post went semi viral and then my TikTok started gaining traction. Overall it was definitely a fun and uncomfortable experience, but in the best way possible.
I still find myself getting nervous about posting myself, or talking on TikTok, but I take it one post at time. Plus, I have noticed that risk alone has helped me be less introverted and more open to taking a risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked at Viejas Casino & Resort since 2016 and there I learned so much about myself, while working there. It was challenging at times, but I think the reward outweighs the challenges. I grew as an individual, my confidence got better and I learned who I am, what I’m willing to tolerate and what I refuse to tolerate. Recently I left Viejas, and it was the best decision I made for myself. It opened the door for new experiences and an even better job that I just started. There were a lot of challenges working there that have taught me a lot about remaining authentic, which falls into a major lesson learned. If you stay true to yourself, remain authentic and don’t let the negative weigh you down, you will always come out ahead. But it is also learning to stand up for yourself and being a major advocate for yourself! I allowed people to walk all over me, personal life and work life, and you should never allow yourself to be a doormat.
Since leaving Viejas I have had so many opportunities open up for me, especially with social media. I have connected with so many influencers and made so many new friends in the influencer community that have pushed me to continue down that influencer path. It is scary, but I’m embracing it.
I will give credit to Viejas for giving me the place to grow and gain this confidence to utilize in my personal and professional endeavors. I don’t think I would be where I am at mentally, emotionally or professionally had I not experienced what I did there!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a San Diego native, while also being Native American, has given me a wide range of appreciation for San Diego. With that being said, I think San Diego is an amazing place where you get a whole variety of things to do, with a large variety of cultures and experiences. We get the beach, the mountains no matter which direction you take, you’re on a scenic route.
The first place I would take my best friend who is visiting San Diego would be Julian, Ca., especially if it’s during the fall season. You have apple picking, the Julian Mining Company, Julian Pie Company and shopping. Then we’d be city of San Diego tourists where we would do everything from Old Town to relaxing on the beach. However, is it even a trip if you don’t try to experience the San Diego Zoo or make a tiny drive up to Disneyland? Both are a must!
One place I would take her to eat, which I believe is extremely underrated, is the Descanso Junction. This place is delicious and my family and I have been going there since I was a little girl.
One thing I would encourage everyone to do while visiting San Diego is the Little Italy Famers Market. I promise it’s worth it!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say after the last 2 years, my biggest shoutout would have to go to my mentor / relative Danny. He has taught me how to be resilient and face things head on, even when they’re the most terrifying. My family who has always been unconditional and encouraging, I’m thankful. However, this was especially important to me because I am a mom, so showing my children that taking risks and opening yourself up to new life experiences isn’t as bad as it sounds.
