We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Wolford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I started making up random songs in my head when I was 9 years old and wrote them down all the time. I was so excited when I had a full song written down on paper and would sing it to myself constantly even if I didn’t like it. It’s become something I just do in my free time now and I still get that same feeling I had when I was a kid. Now, I get to release some of them. I just loved writing songs so much I knew I had to do something with it when I grew up. Here I am trying.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m definitely proud of the truth I’m able to speak with my music. My support is willing to listen to anything I have to say without judgement and that makes it more comfortable for me when I write something. I’m so thankful I get to make whatever music I want as long as it makes sense to me and my listeners will cheer me on. It was definitely hard to get here. I never would’ve recorded a song or released anything (streaming wise) if I hadn’t had my heart broken and jumped on a plane. I’m born and raised on Guam and moved away when I was 22 to pursue whatever kind of music career I could make after experiencing the worst heart break of my life. It’s the life changing one. Y’all know which one I mean.
I want people who listen to my music to take what resonates with them. My songs aren’t going to relate to everyone’s life experiences but if one line in a song can make someone’s experience feel less isolating, then I’ve done what I’ve wanted to do since I knew I wanted to be an artist.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Alright, first we’re taking a quick nap. 30 minutes. Then we’re going to get all dressed up for lunch but that’s after a few glasses of wine. Then we Uber to Ichiban Sando in Chula Vista and get their chicken katsu plate. After that, we’ll head to the beach and catch up on life. For dinner: cooking at home with more wine and watching our favorite movie. Stay up all night laughing and making TikToks.

Might not sound interesting but this is a dream night for my best friend and I. Just the two of us, food, wine, and laughs. Live, laugh, love. HAHAHA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my friends and family back home on Guam for their constant support and love, especially my mom. I love you mama!! One person in my life deserves a huge one though. TonyaJae, my sis. She pushed me to release my first singles and continues to push me to release more music. We motivate each other. So shoutout to my baby TonyaJae i love u (go stream her music).
