We had the good fortune of connecting with Nessa Lily and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nessa, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
The way you’ll know that it’s time for you to give up what you’re doing, as cliche as it sounds, is if your heart isn’t in it anymore. If you say that you love what you do, it means you’re actively putting your heart and soul into your craft or your business. Heart is what gets you through those moments of doubt and those times where you feel like you aren’t seeing the results you were expecting. It fuels your drive, determination, and your overall enjoyment for what you’re pursuing. If you feel like the spark has started to fade and you don’t see it coming back, then it may be time for you to walk away.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

As a Beauty Content Creator, I share my passion for cosmetics through engaging makeup tutorials, shopping hauls, and other unique posting formats on social media. I mainly feature affordable makeup products in my videos because I truly love showing others how you can get a high end looking result on a budget. In June, it’ll be 6 years since I started this journey and it’s one of the best decisions that I ever made. Despite balancing school, my personal life, and keeping up with all the latest social media trends, my love for beauty continues to grow and has always been the driving force behind my work.

Not only has it been one of my biggest motivators, but it has also brought me some really great opportunities. I’ve had the chance to become an Ambassador for the beauty brand Shop Miss A and connect with so many creators whose journeys have truly inspired me and where I want to be one day. Some of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned from my online peers that I would pass onto future social media creators are consistency, being yourself, and stepping outside your comfort zone.

When you’re consistent, you are actively connecting with your audience while having your work be visible daily in the various algorithms. Being yourself is SUPER important because there is only one you and showing others who you are gives them the opportunity to relate to you on another level besides your niche. Lastly, if you step outside your comfort zone, you have no idea where the possibilities will lead you to. It keeps your mind fresh and helps you to get used to taking risks. It isn’t the easiest thing to do but if you keep playing it safe, you may not get the results you were hoping for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

San Diego has so many great spots to check out, but these are the few places in the last year that I consistently keep coming back to. For breakfast and lunch, I’ve truly enjoyed eating at Swami’s Cafe. All their dishes have fresh ingredients, healthy and diet friendly options, and it’s pretty affordable for the portions that you get.

Mimi’s Cafe, Tajima Ramen, and Giardino’s Cucina have been some of my favorite places to go to for dinner. I usually like going to Mimi’s when I’m craving their warm bread, french onion soup, and their most loved cobb salad. Tajima has many tasty ramen options, but my preferred order usually consists of their signature Tajima Ramen bowl with chicken and a side of gyoza. Giardino’s is a super cute Italian restaurant that’s perfect for a night out with your friends, family, and even for a date night. Plus, they have a unique interior design and daily specials for everyone to enjoy, like their $19 Lunch Specials, Monday Cheese Wheel Pasta, and Weekend Brunch with Endless Mimosas!

A new Mexican Restaurant that I’ve really come to love this last year is Cocina Del Charro in San Marcos. The food overall has a great authentic taste, the staff is very welcoming and courteous, and they have a live band that plays on Saturday nights so you can have dinner and do a little dancing as well.

If you’re looking for a nice dessert shop, Paradise Yogurt in Mission Valley has been hands down my favorite dessert spot this year. They have a delicious variety of yogurt flavors, acai bowls, sundaes and fresh baked cookies. It doesn’t get any better than that! Lastly, I highly recommend checking out The Hamlett Coffee Shop in Lemon Grove. I’m in love with their iced lattes, their laid back cafe environment, and I really admired how involved they are with the community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this article to all of my loved ones and online supporters. Your kindness and appreciation for my work never goes unnoticed and it truly means the world to me. Also, to the beauty influencers that made me want to become a creator myself, thank you for paving the way for people like me and future creators to come.
