We had the good fortune of connecting with Nella Simoni and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nella, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because I love to write! Creativity is a therapeutic process for me. I was that one student who’d rather complete a 30 page essay than take an exam. I just have a plethora to say and write about. Writing is my self-care and I’m happy to have pursued a career where I can express myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First and foremost, I am an educator and counselor. I’ve always wanted to help others and love learning. Thus, teaching was my destiny! Besides teaching, I decided to pursue my other passion- writing. I was that one student everyone contacted to edit their papers. To this day, “can you check my paper, Nella?” Fiiiine. I’m really excited to share my first novel, (well, it’s more of a novella) with world. I’ve already published three children’s books and am stepping into the novel universe. I want everyone to know that “Brave Magnolia” is a beautiful and bittersweet story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My bestie is in for a treat! We’d visit Balboa Island, Irvine Spectrum, and Disneyland! My favorite spots are Trader Sam’s at Disney, getting a frozen chocolate banana at Balboa Island, and walking around Irvine Spectrum. I think my bestie would love going on the ferry in Balboa because that’s a family favorite of ours. I would love to take my bestie to San Diego and attend Comic Con! Coronado is another favorite spot of mine because I love relaxing by the water and it is an iconic location. One of my favorite films is “Some Like It Hot” so yes, we would be geeking out to where Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe were! Although I love planning out a fun itinerary, I’d like to be spontaneous and explore new places!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family and friends! I would not succeed without the endless support, motivation, encouragement, and nudging from my people!
