Meet Mirjana Vidic | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mirjana Vidic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mirjana, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance has changed dramatically for me over time.
I’m originally from Serbia, where I earned a Master’s degree in History, specializing in Southeastern European medieval history. Even back home, it was difficult to find work in my field. When I moved to the United States, I quickly realized that my specialization didn’t easily translate into career opportunities here either.
So when I was given the opportunity to work, I took it without hesitation. I worked two jobs in the restaurant industry and poured myself into them. That period of my life taught me resilience, discipline, and how to multitask under pressure. I learned how to connect with people from all walks of life — something that unexpectedly became invaluable in my photography career.
But over time, I knew I wanted more than just working hard. I wanted to create something meaningful and aligned with who I am. Photography had always been part of me — storytelling, emotion, human connection. So I decided to fully pursue it.
Today, my work-life balance looks completely different. Because I photograph what I truly love — couples, proposals, and now increasingly elopements across California — my work feels inspiring rather than exhausting. My transition from proposal photography to elopements feels natural, as my heart has always been drawn to documenting intimate love stories in breathtaking outdoor settings.
Photography gives me something I didn’t have before: freedom. I no longer measure success by how many hours I work, but by how fulfilled I feel. I can enjoy San Diego, travel, camp, explore the mountains and the ocean — and those experiences feed my creativity.
For me, balance now means building a life where my work supports my lifestyle and passions, not the other way around.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is about emotion over perfection. I’m most proud of creating images that feel effortless but are deeply intentional. I pay close attention to light, movement, and the subtle in-between moments — the way someone reaches for a hand, the nervous laughter before a proposal, the quiet breath before a kiss. Those are the frames that last.
What excites me most right now is expanding into elopements across California. Being outdoors — in the mountains, by the ocean, in wide open spaces — allows couples to be fully present, and that freedom translates into powerful, honest imagery.
It hasn’t always been a straight path, and building a business from the ground up takes patience. I’ve learned that consistency, showing up even when it’s hard, and continuously refining your craft matters more than overnight success. I’ve also learned that your energy sets the tone for the entire experience — when I’m calm and grounded, my couples feel it too.
What I want the world to know about my brand is this: I care deeply. I care about the experience, about the story, about how the images will feel years from now. My goal isn’t just to deliver beautiful photos — it’s to create something meaningful and lasting.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s honestly impossible to pick just one spot — San Diego and California have so much to offer. But if my best friend were visiting for a week, we would definitely spend most of our time outdoors.
We’d start with the coastline — sunset at Sunset Cliffs, walking through La Jolla Cove, and slow mornings by the ocean in Del Mar. For me, the beaches and cliffs here never get old. The light, the colors, the feeling of openness — it’s pure magic.
Midweek, I’d plan a road trip to Joshua Tree National Park. It’s one of my favorite places in the world. There’s something incredibly grounding about the desert — the quiet, the textures, the endless sky. We’d hike during golden hour, photograph the landscape, and stay late for stargazing. Joshua Tree feels like stepping outside of time. It’s where I go to reset, breathe, and reconnect with creativity.
Back in San Diego, we’d explore neighborhoods like North Park for coffee and local energy, grab fish tacos by the beach, maybe spend an afternoon in Balboa Park just wandering. Nothing too rushed — just soaking it all in.
For me, the best experiences here aren’t about crowded attractions. They’re about sunsets, open roads, good conversations, and those peaceful moments in nature that remind you how beautiful this world really is.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would absolutely dedicate this shoutout to my cousin, who is also a photographer and has been my mentor from the very beginning.
When I was just starting out, I shadowed him on shoots, watching how he worked, how he connected with clients, how he saw light and composition. That experience gave me confidence before I even fully believed in myself. He didn’t just teach me technical skills — he showed me how to tell stories through images.
Over the years, our relationship has evolved into something even more special. Now we often work together, collaborate on projects, and continue learning from each other. Some of my favorite memories are our road trips — driving through US, chasing light, photographing landscapes, mountains, and quiet moments in nature. Those trips constantly remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
He has been my support system, my creative sounding board, and someone who genuinely understands both the artistic and emotional side of this work. Having someone who believes in you — especially in the early stages when everything feels uncertain — makes all the difference.
I wouldn’t be where I am without that mentorship, encouragement, and shared passion.
