We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Hagelen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miranda, what makes you happy? Why?
The celebratory moments in life! These moments are what makes life special. It’s important as humans to celebrate the small victories, it makes the hard moments worth it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of my drive in life. When I have a goal, I achieve it. When I was 16-years-old I first visited the Netherlands, thanks to our live-in au pairs who asked us to come visit their special country. I became obsessed with the idea of living there and moved there at 21-years-old to finish my BA and then continue on to complete my MBA. I learned to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Being in another country, surrounded by a different culture, and people with different value sets taught me to always be adaptable. To view life from other’s perspective, to be a chameleon while still being yourself, to always be open to learning, and to push yourself when opportunities get scary – to overcome to fear of the unknown.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have a best friend who is coming to visit from London. I told him the things we must do in San Diego are eating Mexican food from a taco shop, sitting on the beach in the summer and riding the waves on a boogie board. We must attend a San Diego Padres game and get on the megatron. We have to go to the gas lamp district and bar hop around beautiful downtown. Then take a scenic drive down to Point Loma, grab some food from Point Loma Seafood, then drive over the Coronado Bridge to the Hotel Del Coronado to walk on the beach. We would take a day to view the Midway, as a unique museum with vast history of the US military. Then we would finish our day by hitting on of the many cool micro-breweries San Diego has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My step-dad and my mom. They all encourage me every step of the way. When I feel like giving up, my dad gives me a pep-talk and helps me revive my hope. When I do something well, my mom reminds me of my talent and special abilities.
