We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Chatterji and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miles, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the key factor, is not to think about success at all. Just focus on what it is that you want to deliver, and other things just seem to fall into place. After all, you won’t get too many opportunities without putting effort into your craft, when you put in the effort on perfecting your craft/style that’s when others will take note.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that my art is set apart in a way that the viewers can feel as if they are there. Like they are experiencing the view in real-time, even though it’s a photo. This can help us reach a level of feeling or emotion that isn’t always present in photos that we see when scrolling through social media platforms. Of course, these things aren’t easy to photograph and have come over years of practice. I experienced a lot of frustration over photos not looking the way that I remember while standing and taking the picture, as well issues with aberrations while printing photos, and being very critical of my own work. My thoughts are if I don’t like this why would someone want to hang it on their wall? I am able to overcome by remembering that this is just one photo, I can go back and re-take it if I need to, or just take what I have learned here and move on, knowing that the next time I won’t run into these issues after learning from this frustrating experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough question to answer, as LA is so big it’s hard to decide what to cover if you have a limited time. I also have friends across a wide gamut of interests so tailoring the experience would be quite tough. However a few must-do activities in the area are/can be a bit cliche, but it’s hard not to hike the Hollywood sign, visit the observatory, and show off a few of my favorite photo locations. Then there is always a day you want to spend at the beach as well. As far as eating I would like to show them that despite popular belief there are some really good places to get pizza in LA such as Lucifers, Ghost pizza, and my personal favorite, Danielle’s wood-fired, in Valley Village. Fun drives up the PCH and visiting local museums like LACMA, Getty, and the tar pits are always a good time as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a lot of supporters out there. Most importantly I think they deserve some recognition. The comments, shares, etc really go a long way in letting me know that my work is making an impact and that there are people that want to have my work hanging on their walls, or as a background on their computer, etc. Also, as a transplant to LA from the midwest, I think the entire photography community in the greater LA area deserves recognition for taking me in and making me feel welcome.
