We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikey Mora and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikey, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by small business owners. It’s definitely hard to stay on top of everything in a timely manner when your’e a one person team, but you also learn how to acclimate to certain things as you carry on. I see small business owners working day in and day out to satisfy their customers/clients. Work really never ends and I just respect all of the go getters out there to keep their business running.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So with my photography, I mainly focus on portraits, couples, families…basically people as my subject. When I travel, I do enjoy taking landscape photos as well. I love being able to share my passion for others and create memories for them. The amount of compliments I receive on my photos is telling me I must be doing something right haha. When people ask me how long I’ve been in the field, they seem pretty shocked when I tell them only for a couple of years because with them seeing my finished galleries, they think I must’ve been in the field for much longer than that. I’m definitely excited for the future because my clientele is building pretty quickly and I am loving it, honestly. What’s a business without consumers, right? One main thing I’ve learned about myself many years ago, and I have been told this plenty of times as well, is that I am a very patient person. With that being said, starting up photography was not easy. I had to understand that camera settings, lighting, when to use flash, all of the gear. And then there is understanding your clients and learning how to direct and pose and pretty much be the leader. And also, theres the editing. That is where I struggled the most. Editing took A LOT of practice and patience. Did I consider giving up on photography? Honestly, yes I did. And it was because of the editing process. But, with myself being patient, I believed in myself and put trust in the process. And look where we are today! I can only improve each day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place that came to mind is Laguna Beach. You cannot go wrong with the views there. There are several different beaches in Laguna Beach, SOOO many coffee shops and restaurants to check out and it’s such a beautiful city with such diversity. It’s too hard to pick just a select few.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people I do want to shout out. First and foremost, my wife and family for aways supporting me. Having a big support system around you makes the thing that you’re doing even more enjoyable.

Secondly, I want to shout out one of my best friends Alan Tang. We actually met when I first started getting into photography back in 2019 and he was pretty much my hype man throughout my whole journey. We would hang out, go to random areas and just shoot away. Though he operated a different camera, he taught me what he knew and provided some helpful tips and gave me honest feedback, so thank you brotha!

And to all of my friends and family that let me practice on you from the start, I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for you guys allowing me to develop skills for the future. It’s because of you guys that I became comfortable taking on paying clients and to be assertive in a way to make my clients now feel confident during their sessions.
