We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Farrow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Not all financial planners are equal. Many sell expensive products and make large commissions, or simply manage investments. While others focus on providing unbiased advice and provide a more comprehensive plan. For the latter, the benefits far exceed the costs (costs of said advice).

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The top 1% is loosely defined as a household making ~$750,000 or more per year or having a NetWorth of ~ 5 million dollars. This is the group most advisors target. But honestly, these guys are doing just fine in life. It’s the other 99% that I’m more concerned about, and that’s who I focus on working with.

I’m a Certified Financial Planner®, a Fiduciary, and to be able to serve the 99% – I do not have asset minimums or account minimums.

As a commercially rated pilot, and the son of a (retired) 747 captain, I also specialize in working with other Pilots === ✈. They have unique risks that need to be considered, preferably by someone who knows the aviation industry well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Ocean Beach. Don’t tell anyone, but it’s the best beach. A full day in OB would would look something like this. We would bring our dogs down to dog beach to run around. Then head over to the volleyball courts for a pick up beach volleyball game. For lunch we would probably grab Poke at “It’s Raw Poke Shop” or Poma’s Italian Deli.” Head home for a quick nap, then back down for sunset, then cocktails at “The 3rd Corner” or “The Holding Company” rooftop.

My wife Amanda Singer, is also a small business owner and encouraged me to go out on my own. She has been a great resource and motivator.
