Meet Mike and Jenn Edwards | photographer and videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike and Jenn Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike and Jenn, what do you attribute your success to?
It’s The Mike & Jenn Experience. There is no other Mike and Jenn. We know our strengths and we stay in our lanes… most of the time 😉 and that helps us shine. Working together wasn’t always easy but once we figured out what we were best at and let the other person do what they were really good at, it became seamless. Mike is a way better photography, film maker and creative than I am. I very detailed orientated and administratively a boss with an extroverted personality. These things translate into every area of our business, allowing us to be everything that our clients want in a photographer or videographer. They get the amazing product with a high level of customer service and excellence in everything we do. We are not in the photography or videography business, we are in the people business. Our strengths allow us to focus on our clients in a way that helps them become the best version of themselves.

What should our readers know about your business?
While there are many, many photographers and film creators that saturate every market, we do believe we are different. And it’s nothing against others who perform these same services. We are all different and that’s what makes this a great country. We don’t want to be like any other photographer!! We want to be Mike & Jenn 🙂

Couple things that we think sets us apart…….

Mike and I work very well together. We compliment each other. We stay in our lanes and let each other be amazing at what they do. We absolutely LOVE doing business and life together. This means a lot but one example is when we are actually with a client, say we are capturing their wedding, while Mike is behind the camera most of the time and focusing on all the technical and lighting aspects, I’m there to make sure her hair is perfect and lipstick is fresh as well as his tie is straight. In addition, I’m keeping them engaged. They are laughing, having a good time, maybe even whispering sweet nothings to each other per my request. This brings out the best in everyone and gives Mike LOTS to capture!!

We want to build other businesses too!! We give ALL the photos to every other professional we partner with. So again, if it’s a wedding, we provide the caterer, the florist, the venue, hair and makeup artist and anyone else who’s involved in the wedding, with all the photos so they can use freely use in their marketing. Professional photos to use for marketing!! That’s right. Awesome huh!!

We also provide all our clients with ALL their photos, fully edited. We encourage potential clients when searching for a photographer to make sure they know if the photos are going to be edited and if so, how many. We pick the best of the best, no matter the number, and edit all of them. Then provide them in a digital download to download as many times as they want. Even if they forward the email to their friends, family, marketing company, etc. Anyone can download! That’s amazing!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this!! We love San Diego and all that it has to offer. We have friends visit all the time too!! A sunset cruise with Triton Charters is a must. Balboa Park is a great way to walk around and see some great things. A day at the beach in Coronado. Be sure to hit up Garage Buona Forchetta for a great atmospher and good food (sit down). Or just want to grab some grub before heading to the beautiful sandy beach, stop off at Village Pizzeria OG. SO GOOD!!

Lots of hiking options. One place without the crowd is Lake Poway. Just be prepared to pay for parking if it’s the weekend or a holiday. The flower fields and outlets in Carlsbad are FUN!

Want to chill at the pool for the day? Visit Lafayette Hotel in North Park off El Cajon Blvd. A great iconic, boutique hotel with lots of personality and a great pool where you can order drinks and food from their yummy Hope 46.

Eating is one of our favorite things to do and we are very selective 🙂 STP Bar n Grill in Clairemont Mesa is a great option for burgers and other fantastic american foods. The best burgers!! Great people too!

Phil’s BBQ is delicious!! I recommend the location off the 15 freeway north of 56. It’s the same great food without the lines.

Ohhhhh Mexican food?? Nacho Libre, hands down. Prepare to wait!! But it’s worth it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost we wouldn’t be where we are today without God in our lives. He is the center of all we do in every area of life including business, marriage, finances and all things. We are confident we are living our best life and fulfilling our God given purposes.

Secondly my husband is a self taught photographer and videographer. There are several names but in general YouTube has been his teacher and guide. Sometimes you don’t think he’s hard at work because he’s watching YouTube but he is!! 🙂 He keeps us up to date with our equipment, new technology, and so much more!! Previously being a scientist for 10 years, he is good at studies so it’s perfect. There is one YouTuber that I recall and that is Fro Knows Photo. A really cool guy with lots of hair!! Overall Mike transitions who he follows and is a lifelong learner, constantly looking to improve himself and his skills.

As far as I go, I spent 20 years in a career that taught me to see the detail in everything. So I give credit to all the bosses and collegues along the way who shaped me into the administrative, detail orientated person I am. I was taught how to run the business of fortune 500 companies so transferring that to our business model just took some minor adjustments. Now my outgoing personality is just who I am and how I was made 🙂

Ultimately we are grateful for all the people who believed in us and stood by us and poured into us. We couldn’t have done it without you!!
