We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikayla Pock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikayla, what inspires you?
I am inspired by others. I am inspired by the magic that is this life. We all go through so many different life changes and experiences. We all see life in a slightly different perspective. I am inspired each and every day by other humans, and the resilience and strength we all hold. I believe that once we ultimately discover that innate strength, we are unstoppable. This is why I became a coach…not just to inspire and help others, but to guide others towards that strength they’ve had in them all along.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a pre/post natal certified corrective exercise specialist. I am a certified personal trainer and have my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. I believe that my dedication and passion for women-especially women who are dealing with aches and pains, discomforts or confusion- especially surrounding movement sets me apart from others. I think there is a lot of noise out there in the fitness industry about what is right and what is wrong. I like having open and honest conversations with my clients…meaning nothing is off limits. You’re dealing with leaking? Ok. You need to let off steam? Got it. I understand bodies are constantly changing and shifting and will adapt with your body. My training style is very collaborative. How is that feeling? How does that weight feel? What do you think? I think it creates a strong bond between trainer and client and also creates that self efficacy and confidence in my clients!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first grab coffee over at Scrimshaw Coffee- they also have BOMB breakfast burritos on the weekend. If it’s the weekend, I’d go to the La Jolla Farmers Market on Sunday and then walk down to Windeansea for a fun beach day.
I’d also take them on a walk around bird rock and end at OB Brew for a beer and some yummy food and amazing sunset views!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think every single person I have encountered in my life has led me to where I am now. However, this person in particular has changed the way I see my life, and has drastically shifted the direction of where my life is now going. Robin Taylor. Owner of MVMNT Studio in San Diego, California and certified BADASS. I started my journey with Robin almost 2 years ago, as an intern. I was an anxious, shy human who thought that speaking up and going for my dreams was out of the question. There was lots of fear and a shit ton of uncertainty. What did Robin do? She pushed me head first into the deep end. And I can’t thank her enough for it. She believed in my specialness and power and potential WAY before I did. She knew all I need was a lil push into the scary stuff. Not only that, I’m learning to understand my worth, learn to set boundaries, and give as much love to the world with my knowledge that I can. And that’s what matters. Robin is my rock and is the person that I dedicate and thank for my success and my ability to take action and take the shot on myself.
