We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle] Valenzuela-Wolf and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle], how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am the wonderful product of immigrant Germa-Mex parents. In particular, a strong German mother —an intuitive, highly spiritual woman who would give her all to serve others, and I am forever grateful for. On the other hand, my father is a resilient risk-taker and always encouraged me to believe in myself. He pushed me to become the strong entrepreneur I am today. My cultural background profoundly influences my love for people, languages, and cultures. It propels me to encourage teams and individuals to be curious, observe, and learn all parts of themselves. My Germa-Mex upbringing ingrained my five fundamental core values: connection, community, determination, love/kindness, and inspiration.
When I chose to leave the corporate world, I vowed to address my fear to own all parts of myself head-on and move into opportunities in all forms. I believe in reinvention for life-long learning.
EmpowHer LA was born in November 2017 with my passion and desire to serve women in all life transitions from business to spirituality and to see them strive to reach their goals and dreams. It wasn’t until my mother fell ill with Alzheimer’s that I took steps to bring my idea to a larger audience. So many talented women sit with gifts and ideas at their feet, waiting. I knew I would never forgive myself if I didn’t try to bring this concept forward. I was determined to launch.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At EmpowHer Purpose, we believe a well-balanced mind leads to the most successful entrepreneur. We also believe that to achieve the balance between business and wellness. You need to connect with mindful, growth-mindset entrepreneurs who push one another forward to succeed.
EmpowHer Purpose is an integrated business and wellness community focused on whole life transitions from personal to professional to spiritual. My goal is to guide you to define your purpose and pursue your path to create your vision and achieve your goals in your way. Transformational coaching is at the forefront of EmpowHer, whether through one-on-one sessions with my clients or in our MembHership, where I facilitate monthly coaching calls with our members. We also hold expert calls once a month in both business and wellness to give our members visibility to other female entrepreneurs allowing them to propel their businesses forward. The Opportunity Knocks podcast by EmpowHer Purpose just celebrated the release of 75 episodes. It is another way we support female entrepreneurs to educate themselves on how women take, make, create and evaluate opportunities. Opportunities are all around us; it is how we choose to listen, get curious and step into them. My motto is to discover your true self, pursue your plan, and achieve your dreams and goals.
Values are an integral part of my coaching practice as this is where we create choices, and once we are aligned with who we are and how we are intrinsically motivated, we can create more joy in our lives. Our society has many competing values, and I want you to live your life with what you want, with no obligation.
My combined spirituality, tools to manage stress and manifest, and background in business make me unique and posed to understand both the worlds of business and wellness. Twenty years ago, I launched myself into the world of wellness. I began my journey: diving deep with my love of training and running marathons, yoga, chi gong, acupuncture, aura readings, chakra cleansings, personal growth workshops, bodyworkers, energetic healing, Akashic records, and more… These experiences shaped me in understanding the importance of self-care, self-love, and being aligned with our body and mind. Of course, I am also certified in many personality profiling tools, from Myers-Briggs to the Enneagram.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A great day starts with meditation, exercise, and nature. Specifically, a hike would be an amazing place to give my BFF the California vibe! LA has the best outdoors, where you can access both City and Beach views. Lucky us! I love the Los Liones trail off Sunset in Pacific Palisades, and after a good hike, lunch at Malibu Farm on the Malibu Pier would be a beautiful setting with yummy food. This location lends to amazing pictures (instagrammable). Of course, if it’s a Friday, you might want to have a refreshing drink with your meal which they also do very well. Most people know that I love to shop, so the Malibu Country Mart has many larger brands available and some unique stores to browse around, from beauty to wellness to spirituality and fashion. Clearly, these are some of my most favorite things. In the evenings, while the Westside has some great places for dinner, like Elephante or drinks at the Patio or Wally’s, I often like to explore and travel out of my neighborhood to West Hollywood, downtown, or even my hometown of Pasadena. Since we would have a whole week to spend with one another, I would most definitely recommend plenty of self-care, whether a daily yoga class at Shefa Yoga with Shayna Hiller or an exercise class at PlateFit with Rachael Blumberg. Of course, without a doubt, a spa day is in order at Olympic Spa in Koreatown. There is nothing like a great body scrub; your skin feels incredibly soft afterward. I love to sing and dance, so karaoke is a must at some point during her stay too! And LA is known for some yummy sushi, but a quick trip to SugarFish is always a favorite!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe every experience and person you come into contact with in life, business, or spiritually helps in your journey along the way. They teach us helpful life lessons to incorporate or not into our lives! That being said, there are a few prominent people that, without a doubt, have had lasting impacts on my life and how I choose to make choices in my life! Primarily, my Mother, Karin Potengowski Valenzuela, taught me to love with all my heart, see people for all parts of themselves, have fun, be goofy, be accepting of others, have integrity in my work and serve my community. Of course, the balance of a family is my father, Arthur Anthony Valenzuela, who taught me determination, resilience, the importance of family, showing up, helping all people, all things are possible, adventure, and never giving up. My oldest sister, Petra, champions and cheerleads me toward every start and finish in life. She most definitely questions my motives but ultimately knows I would never wish ill on anyone and only welcome the results of someone’s highest good. I am also going to mention my first boss after graduating from USC at Turner Broadcasting Systems or Turner Pictures Worldwide Distribution, Robert Lazarus, who has passed away, but honestly was so inspiring and the most supportive boss in providing me with every opportunity to learn and grow in all parts of business and life.
