Meet Melanie Moore | Health & Wellness Advocate – Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
It is no secret that health and wellness is a focus that can be life-changing for us, I mean, that’s a given. But specifically, my goal is to reach those in my own community and those closest to me with education, goal setting, and motivation. I live and lead from a mindset of whole-body wellness: mind and body; physically, mentally, and even spiritually. It takes all three of those aspects functioning at their highest capacity to allow an individual to truly thrive. That concept is actually how I decided upon the name for my business, The Body Quarry. Whole body wellness starts from the inside out. Think of a rock quarry containing rough and jagged pieces that are that combined together to create concrete, which eventually becomes something beautiful and function from the midst of what seemed to be incohesive and inconsistent, a beautiful and utterly unique gem is created. That is the experience I strive to create for my clients that are willing to put in the work. I feel blessed to share what I have learned with clients one-on-one or even in group settings. Health and fitness are not just about working, it absolutely starts from the inside out with mindset.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In 2017, after years in retail & banking management and losing my dad to cancer, I made a complete career change. I studied, received my Personal Trainer certification, and began working at a local community center. Two and a half years later, I had earned more certifications, including Group Fitness Instructor and Zumba Instructor. At that time, I was also working with clients in-person at the community center and on my own. Then, the world as we know it changed forever in 2020. That slowdown allowed me the time to get creative with the type of work I had been doing and even increased my reach, by offering virtual services. With research and planning, I was able to bring my dreams of owning my own fitness and wellness business to reality. Please know, this was not just a three-year goal of mine, health and wellness had been a passion of mine since my college days at Oklahoma State University. However, at that time, I was not as aware of finding ways to live out my passion for wellness and fitness through my work. I was more focused on getting a degree that was more traditional, believing that was the true path to success. Fast forward, then came the grind of life and work… work that had stopped being rewarding but was becoming more of a detriment to my own health, mentally and physically. I genuinely believe things happen when they are meant to be though, I would not be who I am now or lead the way I do without all of that experience.
Stepping into this life/career path was a true leap of faith with planning and careful consideration. I left a bank management position with a stable and substantial salary to begin in an industry in which we are not truly always paid our value for our work, especially when we are working for others in community centers, gyms, etc. But I knew the reward of the change would far outweigh the pay, so to speak. Once I actually started my own business, I was able to gain more control in determining the value of what I have to offer. I am continually making adjustments with that as I become more equipped and educated. It has been a game-changer for me.
The most important factor of my success has been coming to the realization that my business and my brand does not have to look like anyone else’s. There was a time when I got stuck in comparing my success, income, likes, and follows to that of others. That is a dangerous place to be, doubting yourself and what you have to offer. Once I stepped out of that realm, and just began to share what I wanted, in the way I wanted, I truly felt free and realized that I’m reaching who I need to at this time. Of course, I still look forward to (and pray) for growth, but I also realize that I must be ready for the blessings to come. So, I take it day by day and adjust as needed. There is NO cookie-cutter path to success for any of us, I provide individualized services and information that is tailored specifically to my clients to meet the goals we’ve determined for them. You would think that concept would be common sense, but I’ve found that it really isn’t. Clients need and appreciate programs that are tailored to them, and I can provide that.
I feel so very fulfilled in my career because I’m living out my passion, a passion for improving myself and others. Wellness and fitness can improve our quality of life and truly extend our lives. I find creativity in dance choreography, workout design, sharing nutrition and meal ideas, and empowering others to take control of their health with resources and information through the blog on my website at www.thebodyquarry.com and my social media platforms, of the same name. My definition of success is creating a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family that honors God, personally and professionally. In turn, I am able to provide the best service to my own clients to aid them in living their best and healthiest lives. The feedback they provide and referrals they share remind me that I’m on the right track!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends and family would most likely be coming from out of state, as I’m from Oklahoma… so our itinerary would be jam-packed with activities! As far as food and drinks, I’m a huge fan of smaller establishments that have a variety of meal options, including vegetarian. I’m at my happiest when the meals are simple with fresh ingredients, it gives me the opportunity to try to recreate them at home. Another must-do would be having them come visit our church, worshipping together is an experience than cannot be missed with my loved ones. Depending on the season of the visit, a quick day trip to the beach or mountains would be ideal. Folks from back home always get a kick out of the fact that we are 45 minutes from both. That still blows my mind, and I’ve lived here 22 years! Also, we been on a live music seeking, concert attending roll for the past 12 months, so a night out to enjoy music is right near the top of the list. Outside of that, we would just kick back at our home with the windows open, my husband on the grill, a few close friends over to join, and relax!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout my husband, my two children, my sister, and my late mother. Each of them provides their own unique and welcomed style of encouragement, whether it be a good swift kick in the rear or a simple word of prayer. I appreciate it all!
