Meet Meghan Decker | CEO of a nonprofit

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Decker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I actually had no intention to create a nonprofit. I had been told by multiple people who had gone through the process of creating a nonprofit tell me that I would be crazy to do it. So I put the thought out of my mind and it wasn’t until I saw how many people this disease affects and how quickly it drains your finances that I realized I needed to do this. Being diagnosed with a disease as horrific as ALS is terrible enough, you lose control of your whole body but your mind stays intact, and for a majority of ALS patients to have to worry about money is a stress they should not have. A few years back Huffington Post estimated that the cost of living with ALS is $300,000 a year, and that was a few years ago. So long story short, I decided I needed to create The Tyler’s Tribe Foundation so we could financially support ALS patients and help relieve them of the financial burden that comes with this disease. I began the process of creating a nonprofit after watching my brother battle this disease at the young age of 26 and he is the name and the inspiration behind this entire nonprofit.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The biggest lesson I have learned in this journey is to not take everything to heart. What some see as just constructive criticism used to hurt me down to my core because at the core of it this nonprofit represents my brothers battle against ALS. Once I overcame that it was a game changer. What I want people to know about this brand is it’s a labor of love built by a family who wants to bring more awareness to this disease because it affects far more people than you think. Having my family through the entire process of the ups and downs of this business has kept me going and fighting for our patients

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My sweet momma Colleen. She has always encouraged me and built me up my entire life and she held my hand through this whole process as it takes at least a year to create a nonprofit. Without her love and support I would not be where I am at today
