We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Schutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have an MBA and background in marketing/social media/PR that I believe was a huge strength I brought to this business. The wedding industry, especially in Southern California, is extremely saturated so its vital to set yourself apart in a strategic way. I have brought marketing experience from different industries and applied it within the wedding business to set The Pannikin Building apart.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Pannikin Building is a wedding and events venue in downtown San Diego, offering 5,700 Sq. Ft. of unique event space. The space itself is in downtown San Diego and offers the old-time beauty only found in some of San Diego’s most historic buildings: original exposed brick, vaulted ceilings, open beams, and beautiful wood floors offer a blank canvas for you to envision your next event.

The unique nature of the venue has made it an easy sell for brides looking to imagine a unique wedding set-up in a blank venue space. Obviously, the past almost 2 years have been a huge challenge for our entire industry due to Covid. We are so excited we’re (hopefully) on the back end of it, and thrilled to be helping so many wonderful couples plan their weddings in 2022!

First and foremost, my goal as a business owner is to put both my customers and employees first. I want people to know when they set foot in The Pannikin Building that they will be treated with respect and kindness. Beyond that, I hope The Pannikin Building inspires creativity on every level- from our clients, to the amazing vendors we get to work with. I hope the venue is truly a canvas for anything you wish to create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re partial to the Historic Gaslamp District in Downtown San Diego- since that is where The Pannikin Building is located! Downtown San Diego has so many fun and unique spots. It feels most intimate while still feeling like a big city. We’d also recommend checking out all of the great eats in Little Italy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am supported by an amazing husband who has cheered me on every step of the way, even when I’ve doubted myself. I credit him to keeping me going, especially during Covid! I also have two extremely supportive parents- entrepreneurs and business owners themselves- who have provided both loving support as parents, and practical support as experienced business owners. I would not be where I am without my family.
