Meet Matthew Collier | Musical Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Collier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, how do you think about risk?
I think that taking risks is a big part of life. You can play everything safe and never take a risk but you’d end every day wondering what if. For me, I take risks with every song that I release. Disregarding the money it costs alone, it becomes a game of “will the new release be greater than the last one”. Not every risk will pay off and you’ll learn a lot as to why they didn’t work out. Taking risks has helped me reach goals in my career that I had set when I first started releasing music, and it has overall taught me a lot about how the industry works.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a rapper from South Florida. What sets me apart is the versatility I have when it regards music. Switching flows and being able to rap over any beat is something that I’ve found pride in as an artist. I’m most proud of the feedback I get on music, whether it be good or bad and I’m excited for the upcoming songs and collaborations I have yet to release. I got to where I am with a lot of help from others. This isn’t an industry that can be maneuvered through alone and being independent doesn’t always mean that you did everything by yourself. Having that help made it a bit easier, but the process of it all was still difficult. I overcame these challenges by learning through mistakes and what others had experienced when doing the same thing you’re getting ready for. Some of the lessons that I have learned is that the music industry is not cheap, and everything needs to be planned out. I want people to know that just because the things we struggle with aren’t the same, it doesn’t diminish what either of us struggle with. I’ve had to overcome a lot of things that I’ve watched others give up on to get to where I am.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most people visit South Florida for one thing only and that is the beaches. I would take you to Pompano or Deerfield beach since that is the one nearest to me and they aren’t as populated as others. A big thing that would need to happen is taking them to get a pub sub. For those that don’t have a Publix around where you live, you’re missing out on pub subs. Another day I would probably take them to the Promenade in Coconut Creek. It’s a nice little shopping center that has some good food places and a really nice movie theater. At some point during the trip there is no doubt that we’re going to Wreck It Ft Laudy, which is a rage room where you get to take sledgehammers, baseball bats, crowbars and more and break glass, furniture, and anything from your ex that you want to break.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been a big part of getting me through life and my son has saved my life whether he knows it or not. My brother “Cave” deserves a big shoutout for getting me hooked on music at a young age and bringing me to my first recording studio and allowing me to perform live for the first time with him. I cant name all of the friends who have supported every step I’ve taken in music, but the circle is very tight and those who are apart of it already know who they are. Two people however that stand out are Fernando and Alfredo “ALAR” Rivera. I’ve known the both of them and their family since I was three years-old and those two have done nothing but support and help my career in music. Fernando does nothing but boosts those who are around him and constantly networks my music to his friends and people he meets. Alfredo does the same with any new artists, producers, engineers, etc. that he meets and gets the chance to work with. I sincerely couldn’t be more thankful for those who I keep close.
