Meet Maritzell Cazares | 3D artist, architect & Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritzell Cazares and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maritzell, why did you pursue a creative career?
Well, this is a very good question, since I was a little girl I’ve always loved to draw, I remember all my childhood drawing different things like portraits, animals and architecture but character design was my favorite. When I had to choose a career I didn’t have too many artistic choices at that time so in my opportunities there was the architecture career, I liked architecture but it wasn’t my first able goal, to be honest, nevertheless, I chosed it. In the beginning, I was feeling kind of confused, everything was so hard and I was thinking if it was worthed, I was considering giving it up but I talked with some very special people about it and that helped me to focus on what I wanted and I realized that architecture was one of my passion, thanks of that career I learned so much about design, composition, color theory and more, especially some 3D software. When I learned more about 3D I fell in love with it. I was just thinking about how I could create so many things using my imagination and make them real with 3D so I decided to search and get more knowledge in that area, I learned a lot by watching tutorials and practicing by myself. At first, I was creating more 3D architecture, then I focused on character design. I can say that 3D design is my passion right now and I feel more confident to realize how I love to do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the biggest challenges for me was creating a style, in the past, I always watched other artist’s artworks and I was feeling kind of desperate to know how they created their style, at first I drew a bit of everything but then, time later I was discarding some styles and brought me more focus of what I wanted. I consider that my artworks are always changing but with the same essence that identifies me, it wasn’t easy for me because every time I wanted to have a unique style that limited me a lot but one day I tried different methods, colors, compositions, 2D and 3D art and thanks to that I was able to experience a lot. About my knowledge I want to say to all the artists that are feeling the same way I felt that they dare to experiment with all the different methods and not be afraid of what may come out of it, if it goes well or it goes wrong, that leaves teaching in ourselves that will help to shape our art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I can consider Jardín Botánico Culiacán is one of the beautiest spots in my city, we can enjoy nature, appreciate the incredible architecture of Tatiana Bilbao as well as be amazed by the combination of art and architecture by James Turrel which leads to a marvelous experience. And you can’t leave Sinaloa without trying the most delicious food that you’ll ever try, every dish is a piece of art, especially culichi sushi and seafood, we have the advantage that the sea is close to us and the seafood will always be fresh all the time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I appreciate my teachers to teach me all I know about design, to my friends to taught me that everything can be better with beautiful moments, and my family because without them I would never have been what I am today, especially my sister that inspires me every day and gives me so much motivation to create, to my grandparents that raised me as their daughter with so much love and brought me so many opportunities and to my mom to be the most amazing, funniest and wonderful mother that always know how to make me feel better and love me a lot. Thanks for everything.
